SWINDON TOWN: Caddis wants extra effort against Brighton

SKIPPER Paul Caddis believes Swindon Town need to find an extra gear if they are to get anything from Tuesday’s Capital One Cup clash with Brighton.

Town suffered their first defeat of pre-season on Wednesday as they went down 1-0 at the hands of Crystal Palace, and while they performed well in patches, Caddis still believes they find an extra 20 per-cent before the game with Championship opposition.

“Percentage-wise the first half against Palace was 80 or 85 per cent but then in the second half we dropped a bit, and that is normal for pre-season because you are just trying to get the feel of things,” he said.

“For the game against Brighton we will go back and do a few days of training and some more tactical work, and if we do that then I think we will be fine.

“We want to make a good account of ourselves against Brighton, even though they will probably have most of the ball, because we want to show our potential and it is all about the result.

“If we play to our best and they don’t play as well as they should do we can win the game, but we are just looking forward to it now.”

Town started Wednesday’s friendly quickly before fading in the second half, but Caddis still believes there are plenty of positives to take from the game.

“The gaffer has spoken to us about that, but I am not sure what it is because the first half performances have just seemed to be that much better,” he said.

“During pre-season that can be normal, even though it shouldn’t be, but the more competitive games we have the better that will be.

“It was good to get a proper game against a league side, and even though they are from the league above I felt we held our own, and more.

“On another day one of our chances could have gone in and we would have won the game, and we know we can do that because we have quality players. We have Matt on one side and Robbo on the other, and we always know we are going to get something from them.

“There were times where we were amazing, but we still conceded even though we felt Wes touched the ball.

The Scot has been struggling with injury during pre-season, but is feeling fine now ahead of the big kick-off.

“I am fine now and feeling fully fit, and I caught up with all the running and I am now ready to go,” he said.

“I have had plenty of games too, and even though it might take a few more for me to be fully fit, I can’t wait to get started.”
