You can make it happen: Fitton
ANDREW Fitton has rubbished fears Town's target of 6,000 season ticket holders is unrealistic and has urged all supporters to play their part in the push for the Championship.
The race to 6k' was getting under way in earnest at 10am this morning, with the Town chairman insistant there is evidence of a direct correlation between big attendances and success on the field.
Providing the club sell 6,000 season tickets by August 1, almost doubling the last campaign's sales, Town fans will be able to watch football at the County Ground for under a tenner for the first time since 1993.
Season ticket holders will get the chance to renew from 10am this morning, with normal sales starting a week later, and Fitton is keen to stress the importance of packing the County Ground once again.
He said: "I really don't think 6,000 is a unrealistic number. People have to understand there is a direct relationship between crowds and success.
"Of course there are exceptions, like Newcastle United, but there is definitely a marriage of interests here. The more people who come, the more money we can spend on building the right team.
"It would be great to go the games and hear people say how good it is sitting in a crowd of eight to 10,000 rather than 6,000. There is a big difference in FROM BACK PAGE
the atmosphere without a doubt and the players feel that."
While Fitton's bold gamble of slashing prices for next campaign has received a big thumbs up from the terraces, some of the more cynical supporters have questioned the reality of their goal.
"If you look at Bradford City a similar scheme put thousands on their gate," said Fitton. "We want the whole town behind this and for it to be real united effort to hit that 6,000 figure and beyond.
"I think people will see good football next season. We are playing different football to when Paul Sturrock was here.
"We are building an exciting squad. I want people to say we remember when we used to have big crowds at the County Ground every week because that is what we want to bring back to the town."

Its still good value even if we don't sell 6,000. I've had a season ticket for donkeys years and I've never ever seen a price reduction on this scale before!!!!!!

I will be getting my first season ticket for 5 years next monday. Its finally making watching town affordable again.
I think we may just be able to get the 6000, although all the stay away fans who said that the reason they dont go any more was that "the tickets are too expensive" will show their true colours... They wont renew because they are all glory hunting armchair fans who would rather watch Chelski or Man United or the French Language team on Sky than watch proper football!

Credit to Mr Fitton for putting his money where his mouth is. We have said for years that lowering prices will bring in more people. Now we have a board who share this really bold vision and I see no reason why 6000 season tickets can't be sold. Although I think it's great, I won't be getting one as 229 quid and also a ticket for my son is simply too much in one go. 10 quid a game and I would go to all home games, but all in one go is just too much and I'm sure many others will feel the same. It will be just the usual hand full of games for me next season at full price. I went to Hungerford Towns ground last weekend to watch my son play for Highworth Juniors. I have to say that comparing it to The County Ground is like comparing a Ferrari to a Lada, so considering his limited football expierience, Fair credit to Mr Fitton for getting to grips with the club so quickly.

Getting my first one for 14 years, I work away during the week most of the time so it was never woth it as missing 4 games meant you were out of pocket. Also getting one for my boy of 7 at £3 a game it is a no brainer.
I think the kids prices and family packages could be the key to this as they are ubelievably good value.
If we do make it to the 6k mark then I really do think Fitton and Co will take this club forward on and off the pitch, if we dont then I am afraid as a fan base we dont deserve their backing

For you & your son the upfront cost is £199 by August the 1st & then £150 by first October. (Family Ticket) (If we sell more than 6,000 the second installment is reduced to £100.) This would allow you to take your son AND if you wanted another child too & works out cheaper than the two separate adult & Junior tickets.
My main point is that if you put aside £20 (the normal entrance price)a week between now & August you will have the up front payment with the balance payable 8 weeks later.
ie if anyone puts aside the normal entrance money weekly, you can have the whole season paid for by end of Sept

Save up fella! Two and a half months to save up the cash. Think you can also pay it in installments as long as you sign up by the 1st August all is good!

Get a family ticket for you and your kid works out about the same price and he can even bring a mate. You can also split the payments in two, so not all of it has to be paid upfront.
Brilliant stuff!

Picking up on my earlier post (sorry it went up twice), If you look at the Aduct & Junior prices it adds up to a total of £298 to get one of each ticket or £354 if we don't sell 6,000. However if you buy a Family ticket for 1 Adult & 2 children then the costs are £299 or £249 (if we don't do the 6,000).
This means it'll cost just £1 to take one of your childs friends for the whole season, or it will cost less.

Three of us are getting our first season tickets for 13 years. The last time we had one we won the division - let's hope the same happens again !!

Only missed 3 home games last season & by my reckoning have spent close to 400 quid so I welcome this initiative. Didn't buy a ticket last year due to me just returning to the fold. 229 pounds(9.96 a game) is an absolute steal which no sensible fan can ignore. My daughter who is 20 also came with me to alot of the games, so now if she chooses can get a ticket for only 169 pounds(7.35 a game) on a young persons ticket-bargain! Well done Fitton & Co- Now come on everybody!

Myself and two others will be acquiring our first season tickets in 13years and i cant ruddy wait!! I average around 14 games a season so god bless you Mr Fitton for reducing the prices and allowing me to visit every game. For years ive been discussing this and finally we have a great leader who has implemented it.

I'll be getting my first ever season ticket since I have supported the club for 21 years. My bro is doing the same. We normally do 10 or so games so works out a bit more to pay but I get to see more matches.

I'll be getting my first season ticket since the Premier League season which was the only time i've felt I needed one. Even if we don't sell the 6,000 the cost still works out at just £11.70 per game which is frankly a bargain in this day and age.

As I have said before, some people will use any excuse !!!
Saint, shut your gob, Its up to me if I go or not. the season tickets are very good value for sure, and they will attract people to buy them.
but i am one of those people who think the club have a very slim chance of selling 6000.
we have a hardcore base of around 5000.even if all of them bought one we'd still fall short.
i think some people who dont go every week will purchase season tickets.and likewise others who go to nearly every game wont buy one.
the non reduction in matchday tickets will gain a few aswell, as it seems the turn up on the day fan isn't getting any sort of enticement.
lets be honest.the manager we have and the current squad is not going to have people rushing to buy tickets.we are a mid table div 1 side and unless significant player purchese are made.that is where we will be this time next year.

You never know if the club have sold 5,995 on July 31st you might get a few thousand people wanting to help you out.

I am not one of those that reads too much into MM's comments about the transfer market, it would be suicidal to come out with comments such as "we are going to splash the cash and build a title winning side" as you will automatically double the asking price of any potential target.
All will be fine and I honestly believe MM will come good if he is backed financially by Fitton but that is only going to happen if AF can see his generousity and open mindedness reciprocated by the people of Swindon

Haven't had a season ticket for many a year but I'll be getting one this season that's for sure. This initiative deserves everyones support. Well done Fitton and co.

Think its a great idea from Mr Fitton and applaud everybody that buys a season ticket. I personally would prefer to wait and see how they perform next season before I commit to anything as I would like to know that I am getting value for money. I wouldnt pay £100 to see rubbish football week in, week out for a whole season.

im 50/50 on whether we will get the 6000. Im quite pessamistic normally, but if the 3000 curretn ST holders get just one mate to buy a ST then we will make the target easily! Come on people get out there and get all your mates to get one too! Show everyone that this town deserves a football team and that we arent a bunch of glory hunting plastics like Reading!

I also think the 1A + 2C family ticket needs to be exploited by everyone who is geuinely buying 1 Adult and 1 Child ticket, for £1 extra you get another child ticket for the WHOLE season.
So if like me you are going to buy 1 and 1 then get the family deal and we are 1 closer to 6000

Compared to £269 maximum, before this date, (& possibly £229 + a free shirt).
So you are gonna need to decide by thn on the basis of new signings & the pre season friendlies.
FWIW I believe we will be playing more attractive football & near the top of the league, but that's just what I think

I'm beginning to like more and more of what Mr Fitton has to say. personally I'm not too interested with the crap that cryer gets from the players. can't think of one good article that made sense. Let's keep the comments from the decision makers as the only ones that arev worth reading.
I will definitely be buying my first season ticket for years for me and my grandson, I would qualify for gold card, but I will pay the £269 to ensure one of my kids can take him when I can't.
It's a pity the adver does not provide a graph to track the 6000 ticket required over the next 80 days, it requires on average that the Town sell 75 ticket per day between now and August 1st. I'm guessing a graph would show an innitial surge against the planned target, then a dip (people on holiday etc.) and then a real upturn in the last 20 days to meet the target.
I remember 1963 Swindon won promotion to div 2, we won our first 6 games and the chairman wrote in the football pink we would need 19,000 to survive. If memory serves me right we didn't quite make that, but we did average double figures. oh for the 31,000 + for the Man city game we experienced.
So come on you you fringe fans, you need a good reason to say no, the price is right, give the guys the support to deliver what they say they will, it can only get better.

The Adver can't even update their own competition tables let alone be relied on to produce a season ticket sales analysis! The score prediction table hasn't been updated since the Doncaster match!

callumbus..you are right..COME ON ADVER..Put a target graph in the paper every night so we can all see how the sales are going..this sort of incentive is often used by retail shops to motivate staff TO SELL!Lets all jump on the bandwagon now and hit that 6000 target...COME ON YOU REDS!!!

M Mack, i apologise for using my general term and did not mean to offend you in any way, and no, I appreciate tht I do not have a crystal ball and cannot see in everyones personal circumstances, but for gods sake don't be so bloody negative about STFC. Your family life and your wifes health are by far the most important things, but some of us also have personal problems that we do not allow to impinge on perhaps, our only pleasure and release from the pressures of life! Sorry you think I'm a pleb - but it takes one to know one!!!
Appology accepted. I only though you were a 'pleb' for a few moments, I'm sure you're not one in reality and how would I know anyway, I don't have a crystal ball either.
