Cox targets 25-goal mark
SIMON Cox is determined to fire his way into a select band of Swindon Town footballers by becoming just the 21st player to hit 25 goals in a season in the club's 129-year history.
The Town striker netted 16 goals in just 37 appearances in a stop-start County Ground season last time round but he insists his goal tally should have been so much better.
The confident former Reading man points to some bad misses as evidence there is still room for improvement but insists he has the potential to smash his way into club folklore.
Joining the likes of Town greats such as Duncan Shearer, Don Rogers and Harry Morris would be no mean feat with only two players reaching the 25 mark in the past 15 seasons.
Cox said: "I missed two months of the season so I suppose I am happy with 16 goals. But next season I will look to better that and have to be getting 20 at least, I am really targeting 25.
"I will hopefully be playing a full season so I would be disappointed if I didn't build on that record and improve it next time round.
"If I put my hand on my heart I think I should have hit 20 this season. Looking back on a few of the misses, the Leeds one a few at Orient, I could go on. There are a few where I can honestly say I should have scored.
"Having said that my goal record probably looks a lot better than it should do and I know that I can improve."
Guadeloupe international Miguel Comminges is expected to seal a move to Cardiff City in the next few days, with Cox insisting his ambition is what all should be showing.
He said: "That is football, players come and players go. If Miguel does end up going then he wants to better himself as a player.
"If someone came in for me and the club were willing to listen then I think I would probably want to better myself. I want to play at the highest level and so does he and if he sees a good level at a team I am sure he will do that.
"Having said that our season looks a lot brighter because of how we finished. Looking at February and March we have had a torrid time, and were nearly in the bottom three.
"Because we have got four wins out of four that is Championship form.
"We hit form at a good time and hopefully we go into next season on a high."
