Timlin signs and urges fans to look forward

MICHAEL Timlin has urged Town fans to stop living in the past - insisting they should instead be relishing an exciting future.

Revealing he had signed a two-year deal at the County Ground after Saturday's season finale 2-1 win over Millwall, Timlin was quick to play down the imminent departure of Miguel Comminges as he focused on the emergence of a crop of rising stars.

Man of the match Sean Morrison was just one of four teenagers included in Town's squad and Timlin insists their development is further proof the club's future is in good hands.

Nathan Thompson, 16, Kurt Hammonds, 16 , and Ben Joyce, 18, were all on the bench on Saturday with youth team pal Morrison, 17, stealing the show on the field.

In a further boost to a potential promotion push next campaign, Jamie Vincent revealed he had signed a contract to keep him at the County Ground for another year as Maurice Malpas' squad begins to take shape.

Frenchman Comminges watched Saturday's game from the stands after collecting his clean sweep of player of the season awards pre match but, with a move to Cardiff expected to be sewn up next week, Timlin insists it is time to look forward.

He said: "It is going to be a massive loss with Miguel leaving because he has done really well and good luck to him.

"Miguel brought a lot to Swindon's game and you can more or less say he put in a lot for Swindon staying up.

"You can't really knock him for trying to progress his career. Fair play to him really. He has the opportunity and he has to take it.

"But there are a number of decent talented players in the youth team. The fans should be really excited about what is being built here, I know I am. If Miguel goes then he goes but look at what we have at this club."

Danny Senda's seventh-minute header threatened to spoil the end-of-season party but a Simon Cox penalty and Anthony McNamee's deflected effort ensured Town signed off with three wins out of their last four and a respectable 13th-place finish.

Fitton has already said that Parkin wont be returning to Swindon.

Would be nice if Migs had given us another year but from his point of view, he'd be daft not to take the offer while its there. I know I would if somebody offered me a better job! He fully deserved player of the year award.

Don't sign Parkin, he's as bad as Corr for injuries, Fitton should get the cheque book out and look at Lambert or Andy Kirk.
