SIMON Ferry has urged the Town defence to keep a constant eye on former teammate Charlie Austin in tonight’s Capital One Cup clash with Burnley.

The 23-year-old scored 37 goals in 65 appearances for the Robins which earned him a £1.2million move to Turf Moor in January 2011, and has since found the net 26 times for the Championship side.

Ferry knows exactly what the Hungerford-born striker is capable of having played alongside him at the County Ground , and believes Town need to do all they can to keep him quiet on his return this evening.

“Every level he has played at he has scored goals and that is what he is good at, and if you put the ball into the six yard box he will probably score whoever he is playing against,” he said.

“We need to keep our eyes open, and as soon as the ball gets put into the box we need to keep our eyes on him and you can’t let him get away from you because his movement is really good.

“He can get on the shoulder of defenders and he is good in the air, so you need to keep two eyes on him, especially in the box.

“Outside the box he is good, but it is all about when Charlie gets into the box and you need to mark him tight because if he gets one chance he will score.”

Ferry is looking forward to another cup-tie under the County Ground lights, and is hopeful of dumping Burnley out of the competition in the same manner in which they have disposed of Huddersfield, Wigan, Brighton and Stoke in the last 12 months.

“It is always good to play against teams in a higher division and test yourself against better teams at a better standard, and obviously we beat Stoke in the last round which wasn’t expected,” he said.

“So if we can get a result against Burnley we have the chance of drawing a big team in the next round, so we will be giving everything we can to win it.

“We have done well in the cups, especially at the County Ground at night and the wins were not flukes so hopefully we can dominate Burnley as well. We work hard and the teams don’t work as hard as us and we always look dangerous going forward, so that surprises teams I think.”

Ferry was left out of the Town squad which won at Portsmouth a week ago before returning against Bournemouth on Saturday, but the Scot believes that is just part of being involved in a large squad.

“I want to be playing every week, but the manager changes his team for different opposition so you need to accept it, and when you do get your chance you have to show the manager you should be playing,” he said.
