SWINDON TOWN: Loan exit for Bodin?

BILLY Bodin could be sent on loan if Paolo Di Canio manages to sign another striker before this weekend’s home clash with Crewe.

The Wales Under 21 international featured regularly in pre-season, although Di Canio does not view him as a long-term option in attack and instead believes his best position is left wing.

Bodin told the Advertiser in the summer that he would pursue a short-term move elsewhere if it looks as though he is unlikely to play much at Town.

And Di Canio confirmed that going out on loan is an option, if he is first able to bolster his attacking options before the League Two opener.

“Billy is a good, talented player but he is a kid. He will have a good future in the game but at the moment he is a kid, I have to say this,” he said.

“I tell him every day to challenge for the ball and recover the position. We will decide in the next few days if he goes out on loan.”

Bodin will definitely be ruled out of Town’s Carling Cup first round clash with Bristol City a week today after being called up to the Wales Under 21 squad to face Hungary on August 10.

Di Canio only has Raffa De Vita and Alan Connell available as out and out strikers, with Mehdi Kerrouche set to miss the start of the season with a knee injury.

“Mehdi can start training again in the next couple of days but he will not be fit to face Crewe,” added Di Canio.

Kerrouche joins a growing injury list that already includes Mattia Lanzano (rib) and Etienne Esajas (shoulder).

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill - joins the growing list of injured which totals 3!
.
Now with a squad of 27 that is not that many injuries - I bet pretty much every squad up and down the country are carrying a similar number
.
Also 2 of these are purely due to knocks and could happen to anyone at anytime
.
As for Bodin I agree he should move to the left wing - that is PdC and Flynn who has now said he should play there
.
Though a short loan might do him good as we have seen with the likes of Kennedy

Trouble is LR it might only be three out of a squad of 27 but they are first team players, with kerrouche that just leaves two strikers and with de vita taking a slight knock saturday we are down to bare bones in the striking department with Di canio confirming what everybody else has been saying that bodin is better on the wing. And i keep saying we are desperately in need off another striker, i dont agree with your theory that we dont need to worry about another striker at the moment because we clearly do.

Don't get me wrong I don't think we need one full stop - just I'm more prepared to wait beyond Sat to get the right one
.
We have De Vita and Connell to start on Sat and then have Bodin and Pavett who are recognised strikers.
.
I know PdC said Bodin would be best out wide but did play him up top in Italy
.
Then due to our strength in Midfield we have the option of playing Ritchie further forward in the short term
.
So with 5 options thats why I think a week or 2 will not be fatal.
.
Anyway PdC said in his interview on player he was speaking to JW again about the forward position - so could be upping his bid on the overseas one or switching targets to another????
.
In either case we may still get one by Sat?

It's a shame the two injured outfield players - Esejas and Kerrouche - are arguably the most exciting players we brought in over the summer. They are the kind of players that other teams may not have and may not handle too well. Puts a lot of pressure on Ritchie to provide the spark.

agree 69er, its a bit of bad luck on that front that we lose 2 creative players at once. Kerrouche isnt out for long though, and in the grand scheme of this neither will Esajas

I think it's the best for Billy to go out on loan once (if) we get this other striker.
The lad is too good to lose for good but a loan spell where he will get regular games will benifit everyone.
Hopefully IF we get promotion and he gets a good season behind him, he will be back and become a regular for us.
Similarly with Ferry , I think he's too good to lose . However if he can accept for this season to be a bit part player, then next season he can play a bigger part. All depending on promotion though.
Other players that may be going could be one of Thompson or Amankwah, Pavatt, Said and a couple more one of which might even be Timlin

On a bright note, with Esajas. He is already moving his arm freely out of it's sling. So with anyluck he'll be back in full training by next monday

Hi lads, use the link below to go to a footy site called ‘Swindon Web-Fans Forum’ and give us your prediction of how league 2 will end up please? Obviously put Swindon as champions! LOL

You will need to register with this site before posting your prediction.

Laz why do you feel the need to post this link on every thread. Not having a go, just an observation mate :-)

Just that I see a new message appear only to find it's the same as above or below.
I'm busy with farmville and don't have time for distractions lol

Loyal - I can't see Timlin going out this year personally
.
I think PdC sees him as an major part of the dressing room to be removed - a clam head and all
.
Plus he is quite versitile so could play CM, LM or LB so good to have on the bench - as following the ridiculous decision to cut the bench to 5 you now need really versitile players to cover all possibilities!
.
Also do you still want to meet on Sat? I get into Swindon about 1300 and will probably be going to the Legends if you fancy it? You can even bring Steve and Daz - make their day and all :)

Sorry M8 but i thought the Town fans would like to post their league 2 predictions on this other site so figured if i put it on 4 threads i would have a better chance of reaching everyone. I know what you mean though as i look to see if the number of posts has increased before going into the thread, very annoying. After saying that i will look out for your prediction Stilloyal? Cheers M8.

Haha Laz cheers mate , wasn't really on farmville though but doing my daily workout , just finished and now I'm knackered.
My prediction for Sat is 2-2 unless we get a #9 then it'll be 3-2 to Town.

L/R I understand what you say there, but PDC is after a versatile player to play 4 positions and that will make us really heavy in m/f. I feel we will need a different type of player to the other 4 ball winners currently there.

I get to c.g between 12.30 -13.00 normally but go to the c.g pub as I meet other mates there, Steve and Daz will probably be there this week also. You are quite welcome to meet there if you want.

LR, it's all very well having plenty of bodies to fill the striking positions. But is any one of those players going to get more than the odd goal or two? You say that Bodin and Pavett are recognised strikers. It depends what you mean by "recognised". They are certainly not proven at Football League level. That would be my definition of "recognised". I really hope I'm wrong about this but at the moment I have a bit of deja vu. I get the feeling that, as last season, we will lack the cutting edge we need to establish ourselves as a credible force. Here's hoping for a devastating performance on Saturday and a large portion of humble pie for me!

I'm surprised by di canio's comments about bodin being a kid, didn't he claim that youth would be and should have been given its chance ay the end of last season? For me, bodin looks more than capable at this level, I don't care how young he is. I was told he was lucky to get a contract and that his dad was much to do with it but from what I've seen, that's nonsense.

Starting to think that my son is becoming a jinx on this squad. Lasy year he had a shirt that had Austin on it, then when he left my son changed his fave player to Cuthbert, then he left.
-
This year he has just brought a new shift and had Bodin put on the back of it...... !!!!!!
-
Any players that you want out of the squad then just let me know and i'll get my son to start wearing the shirt of that player...
-
s/w fact-just ...... say's it all !!!

Tosh, I probably haven't seen enough of Bodin to be able to form a valid view but from the little I have seen it looked as if he doesn't (yet?) have the strength and guile to be able to cut it at League level. This seems to be what Di Canio is saying when he says he repeatedly tells Bodin to "challenge for the ball and recover position". Perhaps it is just a bit early in his development to expect him to perform in the first team at the moment. I agree with the old adage that "if they're good enough, they're old enough". But the thing with development is that players can become good enough for League football at different ages - and some of them may show a lot of promise but never quite make it.

My point exactly Den there seems to be a patern emerging with town that they just dont seem to grasp that we need a proven goal scorer. i guess its not for the want of trying but they have had plenty of time tio sort this out with plenty of players slipping through our grasp for one reason or another, imho they need to go out on a limb and spend some money on a decent striker if they are truely intent on getting out of this league first time of asking. like you i hope come saturday i am having a slice of humble pie but i am seriously concerened.

I suspect a loan deal or two will have to take place in the next few days.

Harry Kane (Spurs) and Olly Lee (West Ham) would be good temporary additions. Olly being the son of Rob Lee.

Ross Allen (Guernsey FC) is one to look at as well.

Den when saying recognised I meant it is their preferred/natural position not like Ritchie who is a winger by trade
.
Also we are only talking a short period of what 2, 3 league games then Kerrouche will be back and the new boy might be in
.
Also why do people say we don't have a proven goalscorer?
.
Most people accept that the conference is not much lower standard than L2 as Stevenage, Exeter, Torquay etc have all shown recently
.
Therefore surely signing the 2nd highest goalscorer from that level from not the best side is proven? He did net 28!

LR, I am very ready to be proved wrong! Although I wasn't expecting a host of top quality players to be beating a path to our door, I did hope that we would have a more convincing set-up by now. But I'd be the first to admit that we won't really know what we've got until we've seen a few games. Your assessment of these players may turn out to be much better than mine. Here's hoping it does!

Very disappointed if Billy goes out on loan. What message are we sending out to our young players? He is not a kid. He needs his chance and he did a hell of a lot better than the regualrs at the end of last season. Give youth a chance - it's our best chance.

Billy what new forward? Crewe have only signed a back up keeper this summer - they are going with home grown players with 9 expected to start on Sat - unless one of those is a forward?
