Town confirm Caddis and Ferry set to sign

CELTIC duo Paul Caddis and Simon Ferry will travel to Swindon today to discuss personal terms, after Town confirmed they have had a bid accepted for the players.

And no complications are anticipated, with the pair expected both to sign two-year deals in time to play in Saturday's home friendly against Nottingham Forest.

Reports north of the border last night claimed a £350,000 deal for the players was put in place, with both being left out of Celtic's Champions League qualifier defeat.

And a Swindon spokesman this morning confirmed that a bid has been accepted.

The Advertiser understands the initial fee is in the region of £350,000 but there are a number of add-ons which could take the deal significantly higher.

Only £350k......Fitton you cheapskate!

Excellent news! Well done to AF/NW and co. Apparently the third bid we made which shows our perseverance to the cause.

Sounds like the add-on clauses were the main sticking point. I assume Celtic will want us to be promoted now.

So glad story on Scotsman .com was true, was a bit wary as 2 bids were turned down.
Still all has ended well pleased it came out the right way.
Now all we need is a decent CB and striker pennies permitting.
Just one point is us fans get more frustrated than anything else, nobody doubts AF and Board have spent a fair amount of money clearing debts etc and trying to get the club on a level footing.
However as most of us fans know the Town well at least since I supported them since 61 have allways taken time in signing players.
I am thankfull that contracts are now at 2 year min plus wages i guess are within budgets.
so after all our moaning/winging etc well done to AF and DW as these 2 players are a wellcome addition

Quality stuff, well done A.F and D.W. If you look at the quality we have signed this season so far it really is top draw, Ferry, Caddis, Prutton and Rose. Now a few weeks back DW said bids were placed for 4 players, he has got two of them but who are the other two?

London Red, says...
9:48am Thu 29 Jul 10

Just think if it was up to lots on here yesterday we would have simply handed Celtic double that fee just to complete the deal a day earlier!
.
If someone had said a month ago you could sell Greer for £250k and then get Ferry and Caddis for £350k - I would have bitten their hand off for that deal!
.
We have to remember Greer would have been out for the first 2 games anyway - so lets give SM or JFL a chance - then if they don't step up early on we still have the rest of Aug to sign a CB perm or up to Nov to get one on loan.
.
This therefore, puts us in no worse a position than if Greer was still here.
.
Or if some rumours are to be believed in a better position as he was a "bad apple"

Patience is a virtue, or so they say but I can see both sides to the argument. When the club make statements saying we want to hit the ground running this season and are still putting the squad together at the end of July then that statement slightly goes out of the window, but on the other hand Town have raised the bar somewhat to the quality of player they demand, and do not want to sign space fillers and so you have to wait for the right player and clubs to deal. It does not help when clubs are away on tour. In the real world yes all should be in place well before July but many contracts end at that time and players are being released at that point so it must be a nightmare for managers to process new recruits. You have to look at Southend and how many of those new signings would have been on our shopping list. Some of our fans though do beggar belief and have no patience whatsoever and do get over critical and moan moan moan so to some fans they will not see this as positive news and find some negative. Where is the Grim Reaper!!! Gone away hopefully to learn how to spell and add up. Lets hope they sign and that is another two permanent signings and these are still young players who's values could rocket.

I am so happy with this news! Not only do we have a strong first team but we also have a strong bench aswell which is crucial if you want to be promoted from any league. I wonder how much Caddis wanted to come here after talking to Cuthbert and Ferry, we all know that Ferry loves it here. i also wonder if Danny Ward is now looking at us again and wants to come back here, we are definately a club that is going places!
May i also say what a pleasure it is to have people the know how to run a club properly in place. I still think back to where we were before the fitton era and cannot believe how much has changed. Those days when safety in the league was all we could hope for are now long gone.

I posted on another thread that I think we have no chance of getting Darby here this term because I reckon he is going to force his way into the starting line up at Anfield.I would add (reluctantly)Danny Ward to the list of players we have little or no chance of getting as I think he will be loaned out to the ccc, or whatever it is called now!As you suggest the right side of midfield/defence is covered, we also have a very promising youngster in Nathan Thompson at RB who I would have no worries about playing in the starting line up if needed.Otherwise maybe he could be loaned out to get some experience.Ferreira will probably not be signed, and I doubt that Murray will be either, but I wouldn't rule out the young lad from Millwall just yet.Still hoping for that CB!

Good point re Ward. We know he wants to play at a higher level but I imagine he's torn between that and wanting to come back here where he enjoyed it so much. Ward on the left with Austin and Ball up front - what an exciting prospect that would be. If the club can keep the positive news coming over the next couple of weeks there might be a mini surge in season ticket sales. Just over 5,500 sold to date apparently.

Brilliant signings. Am really confident about the season now. That said, with the quality of players coming don't feel like you have to stop there. Was in conversation with a fellow town fan last night and they made fair point with regards Pericard and O'brian. If last season I'd of saind Billy will get 29 goals and JPM will be the leagues top goal-maker I'd have been laughed of this message board. DW et al seem to be able to have a big impact on players performances. These 2 players have now had a full summer of training with the squad and if we can keep them fit who knows what will happen. I think this is a good enough reason itself to give them a chance.

Can't argue with you gloves.Managed to get over to Ciren Tuesday night, and whilst O'brien didn't show a great deal in his defence the pitch was pretty bad, and certainly wasn't helpful for players like him, and Ferreira who like to run with the ball at defenders, Pericard looked pretty good in his role holding the ball up well bringing players into the game.Very strong,good in the air.He sort of reminds me of a lower league Drogba.Hit the post with a really powerful half volley from 25 yardsish.Genuinely think that if he can stay fit he is going to be a nightmare for opposing defenders this term.

With big Vince Pericard, I feel some fans are expecting bags of goals from him but reality is he is a much different player than an out and out goalscorer. He is as big unit and will certainly become supplier for Charlie and others which is quite different to Paynter. I just hope he stays fit and be judged at least after a season and not on his past Town exploits. We have seen nothing yet but after researching his past with other clubs you only have to read some of the opposing fans comments where he absolutely destroyed them. I have heard this from Saints fans and MK Dons fans to name a few. He will be quite a handful up front for apposing defenders which hopefully will allow Charlie to do his stuff and that is why I believe Danny signed him beating off quite a few clubs in the process. Patience required and I'm sure he will show his worth fitness permitting of course. Great news on Ferry and Caddis so lets hope the rest is just formality. Its all shaping up and yes we all get frustrated with lack of signings but Danny wants quality only so the squad is almost there folks and have picked up the season tickets as they are in now for collection. We have replaced Greer, Paynter, Easton, Marshall and Henshall with Rose, Prutton, Ferry and Caddis, in terms of permanent signings. Forgetting the positions, that looks like a trade-up in terms of quality.

So numerically, that's netted out. So now I expect over the next month or so we will see some loan signings to spice this squad up. So far we've only loaned Ball while last season we ended up with five loan players.

As to any more signings? Well whether we agree or not, it looks like we will give younger players a chance to come through this season - Morrison, Bodin and LJF. There's no point in having a youth system unless we give them a chance and yes, it is taking a chance. But we cannot buy players for all positions, we're not that rich! If they come off, then it means scare funds can be spent in other positions. We need some of our younger players to make it through.

Personally, I think we lack width, or more specifically, a winger. I am not an O'Brien fan from what I've seen. Interesting to see what this triallist is like. So for me, a winger is the next priority if it's not to be a centre back. We have four strikers. If any get injured or don't turn out, the loan market is always there.

Absolutely right....the other benfit of standing back and saying we may have to go elsewhere is that:
1) All the add-ons and future performance related terms can be downsized thus guiving us a larger percentage of future sales / revenue.
2) Both the players can be clear that DW and AF mean business, are hard task masters and that they want the players enthusiasm and absolute commitment in the future (not that this is an issue for Ferry as he's always been clear on wanting to come back)....wage demands are under control, good contracts and great business.

I would certainly have bitten anyone's hand off to get Caddis, and Ferry for350k.I remain to be convinced that the Greer sale was good business(if 250k is the correct figure)in as much as I think we should have got nearer to 375-400k for him, and that as a player/leader he is going to be very difficult to replace.Also agree that there is no point in having a youth system if we aren't going to play these youngsters.Tend to take the view if they are good enough they're old enough get em on the pitch.Only DW knows if any of our youngsters are good enough so I guess we have to back his judgement.Incidental

matt - seen him at 16/1 and had already posted elsewhere that he looks good value. Three risks:

- he doesn't take the penalties (Big Vince did in Austria but maybe it was a one-off)

- plays on his own up front in a 4-5-1 formation

- he leaves in the January transfer window! (but then so too might Lambert or any of the other front runners)

I just wish I hadn't given up betting a few years ago - successfully predicted the last two World Cup winners, European championships, and last three Six Nations rugby! Definitely think these odds for CA are good value - maybe the bookies don't realise he didn't play a full season - his goals-game ratio is better than Lambert's (I think)

So for me, a winger is the next priority if it's not to be a centre back. We have four strikers. If any get injured or don't turn out, the loan market is always there.
We have 4 strikers? I count only 3 so we'll need to add at least one more

We need some of our younger players to make it through.

you need to replace henshall with macklin in that list, henshall never made an appearance for us at all, though it was a real shame we had to sell him (henshall) seeing as we're in need of a left winger. I also would have been inclined to keep one of marshall or macklin. I dont think O'brien is any better than either of those.

The team from last season had lost 5 good players and until 2day we have only added 2....
So that might be why ME and SOME other people were a bit up tight..

But it now looks like they will be signing so this is very GOOD NEWS 4 all at STFC..

Lets just hope know that we can add a c/back and a new l/w as cover or 2 replace O"Brien

Lets hope they sign and that is another two permanent signings and these are still young players who's values could rocket.
hi mirek im back nice to see your vile insults again, all teams have them i suppose.

Akinfenwa's a good signing for the Gills (unfortunately). He might have been a useful signing for us. Although with his injury record probably not worth the risk.

redmoonraker - our four strikers are Austin, Pericard, Ball and Bodin.

It's worth mentioning Henshall in the list because he was on the bench a couple of times last year, it's one year on, and we got a fee for him (unlike Macklin)

While I agree that these are two good signings as is Prutton I still think some people are looking through rose tinted glasses.
Comments about giving youth a chance really just confirm that the club doesn't do that. If you look at the team that won last season's South West youth league only two have been offered contracts (I Accept that some maybe 1st year trainees) and Henshaw has been sold so where is the chance for the youths? If we compare Henshaw to either Tozer or Lukas what are our chances getting the sell on clause? Lukas has left Everton for Coventry and AF has said we won't get any money and Tozer is on trial at Orient so not likely to get any sell on there so maybe if we kept them and Henshaw we wouldn't need to loan players or buy from bigger clubs with sell on clauses if they do well and we have the money available. It's a bit like Robert Hulbert who was a good player for us but we had to sell him as we couldn't afford the 50th game sell on clause!!! Also as for business men running the club thats why season ticket holders are losing out. We have a junior registered who only attends a few games a season but for them to attend free we have to sign them as a junior Robin which costs 10 quid so it's not really free and also no discount on shirts or other stuff in the shop unless you get 25 quid membership!!! All things said I renewed my season ticket before the end of last season as I believe in DW and the players more than I do AF or the board and will be in my seat for Birghton and at as many away games as I can make.

I totally agree about the Obrien bit. He's had long enough to put in even 1 good performance but hasn't managed even that. He's a sprinter not a footballer. I hope I'll be forced to eat my words about VP (that's Vincent Perricard not Visible Panties) but again he's had chance enough to show us something to cling onto but again I've seen absolutely nothing to make me think he either cares or is capable. Yes this GRG is just a wind up merchant and probably a Poxford fan who seems to have very little between the ears, and I should not engage with the **** to be honest as that is feeding his **** to wind up honest fans. Good to hear that fans are more upbeat today with the latest news on Ferry and Caddis and as umpcah and many others have said to be patient and Danny will deliver. Its great that Town are building up the squad with permanent signings and I'm sure if these two sign then their values will soar and to sell Greer for 250k and buy these two for 350k is incredible business.

If we get Ward (or a proven central striker) plus a solid central defender, then I think we're really going places. Those two signings could make the difference between being on the fringe of the promotion race and being serious candidates for one of the automatic places. HaHa, bet it takes a day or 2 to confirm with medicals and registration and all. Watch the doom and gloom pipe up tomorrow "Danny and Fitton should have made them sign before they got on the train at Glasgow". Bare in mind the practicalities of this move a few of you out there...you know who you are. Its a long old train ride from Glasgow to Swindon so they might wait till morning to do a proper medical. Especially if they are moving full time they may want to say bye to families before heading down. They both want to sign so no real pressure to rush this through (although DW prob wants them for Sat). And as for moaning fans, my favourite is still the bloke at home to Oldham in the DR. We're 4-0 up and Kev misplaces a relativly simple pass in the middle of the park. Despite having a very good game the 'fan' shouts 'how is he even near the team'....brilliant!

Liverpool have a few youngsters that would be useful, I saw a few of their reserve games last year when their channel was free to view and just watched their Europa League qualifier.

I have always liked Eccleston and Amoo, Martin Kelly would do a good job and Darby came on for the last 10mins

I just wonder how Premier League clubs assess the relative merits of sending their young starlets on loan to either a Championship or a League 1 club?

Less of a guarantee that they will play every game at a Championship club, yet they know that for example, Danny Ward would be first choice week-in, week-out at Swindon.

That said, Darby was often back-up to Manks and Nouble didn't get much of a look in.

Proud to be a Swindon fan as always and today is no exception. Currently in Queenstown, New Zealand.. It's near enough 4 degrees or something stupidly cold.. This weekend, I am going snowboarding and I won't be wearing a coat.. Just the red Swindon Town shirt.

The team looks fantastic! The core team is already giving me a selection headache, especially in midfield!

* Lucas
Smith

* Morrison
* JFL
* Caddis
* Amankwaah
* Cuthbert
* Rose

* Ferry
* Douglas
* Prutton
Timlin

* McGovern
* O'Brien
* Ball
Bodin

* Pericard
* Austin

* meaning should be first team starting

Midfield is obviously our strongest area. The strongest midfield since I can remember. I believe we need to capitalise on that as this will allow us to control games and dominate. We have 18 players. But when it breaks down like that to where people are expected to play, I think we need another 4 players. I think we need 1 more striker, 1 out-right winger (preferably that can play both sides), another winger/ striker similar to Ball, another body in defence that can fill in at all positions (maybe another for defence.. Darby? I know everyone says that Amankwaah is right back, but he could fill in at centre back too?) and that will equal a squad of 22, (my lucky number!!).

We have a solid starting line-up but we need more depth to cover any problems we may get throughout the season. The 4 players we bring in, I think the striker should be perm and the other 3. I vote Vine, Darby, Ward and the young Chelsea player we have on loan.. We would utterly kill this league!

Long live the reign of Fitton and Wilson - together Swindon Town will get back to where we belong! The glory years are about to return ladies and gents! YOOUUU REEEDDSS!!
