SWINDON TOWN: March fixtures 'daunting'

MARCH could well turn out to be the make or break month for Swindon Town this season, and boss Danny Wilson believes he and his players have the formula to emerge unscathed.

After Saturday’s disappointing derby defeat to Bristol Rovers, Town have the ominous prospect of road trips to MK Dons, Brighton, Southampton and Hartlepool to tackle, along with the blockbuster home tie with runaway leaders Norwich before the month is up.

Whilst many League One teams may buckle under the pressure of such an intimidating run of fixtures, Wilson is confident his squad will negotiate themselves safely beyond Easter still firmly in the play-off places.

“If you look at it in the big picture it’s quite daunting,” said Wilson, pictured.

“But if you look at it as just one game, the others don’t come into the equation as yet.

“We know we can go and put on a good show. We just have to draw on the experiences we’ve had this season. We need to revisit the wins we’ve had and the performances we’ve had.

“We’ll look for three wins, but the first one is MK.

“If we get three points there then anything else will be a bonus. But I’m confident it’s not beyond us to win all of them.”

The Robins boss is still working on deals to bring new faces to the County Ground on a temporary basis.

And whilst any arrival is extremely unlikely to feature at stadium:mk tonight, Wilson is hopeful of having the security of further backup ahead of the trip to the south coast on Saturday.

“It would be difficult to put him in tomorrow,” he said of his unnamed target.

“It would be more that he agreed to come and then come and train with us with a view to taking part on Saturday.”

At the start of the six games, I'd have been happy with 9 points. Just not sure what to expect after Saturday. We could win the next 5, draw them all and even lose them all. Oh the joys of being a Town Fan. Good luck tonight guys!!

Hey Viking,
Know exactly what you mean, we could do just about anything but 2 more defeats this week is unlikely in my book.
We weren't deserving of being beaten 4-0 on Saturday. Although The Gas fully deserved the win we didn't look too bad until we went into shock.
I can't wait to leave work tonight and get over to Kilton Keynes, all is still very exciting, especially after Colchester drew at home to Brighton last night....Brighton's away form is quite something this year.

Slight change of subject, Brighton did well last night to hold Colchester to a 0-0, Brez looked sharp and was dealing with the crosses like he did when he first came to the town. They kept the ball on the ground on a rubbish pitch and probably deserved to win. Should be a good game on Saturday, but will need to watch the diver Murray who was lucky not to pick a yellow last night for his antics. Colchester on the other hand play a bit like Stoke, long throws, hard tackles, little skill except for Prutton, who I believe is on loan from Leeds. On that performance don't see how they are 3rd in the table, other than the fact they are resilliant, fit and can run for 90 minutes. 3 points tonight will put us right back in the mix, think it will be a low scoring game, with our defence hopefully showing that they can keep a clean sheet when theyh put their mind to it.

What odds:
Swindon to win
Millwall to lose
Leeds to lose
....!?
Now wouldn't that be a nice looking league table at 10pm.
Brighton's home form is scratchy as they really hate their stadium due to where the dugouts are, so I'd hope for a draw from that one but can see a win tonight....depends on hich MK Dons team turns up though.

Did you see how sparce the crowd was at Colchester, I thought we were watching a blue Square game. Hope Mr Fitton thinks about that when we play Exeter on TV and offers some good deals that will ensure we have a good turn out.

wll i am going tonight cant wait, IMO we must win this tonight, as Dw has stated fixtures coming up are tough, a draw against brighton would still IMO not be enough as cant see us getting anything at the saints and norwich at home i think might well be a draw, get 6 points from the next 2 we will be comfatable agian then any result at st marys would be a bonus, U REDZZZZZZ

First kets wish them all the best for tonught an sure they will be very positive.
As to new faces it's worrying, can understand DW wants th right calibre of player, however after listening to sats game and reading posts our lads looked tired???? question is how do other teams appear to get players in even Stockport, just look at Brighton.
Again taking nothing away from the team who this season have achieved so much, they need help and soon as it's only a few weeks awy until the deadline.
Just hope there nothing ontward going on??? just wish the lads well

I have been trying to put Saturday into perspective. For the opening twenty minutes we were great and had we scored then doubtless it would have been a different story. The breakaway goal was a sucker punch and the second was sloppy defending and seemed to shock our players as much as me! The wheels came off then but I have reminded myself of the displays against the likes of Leeds and am sure this was the sort of wake up call that does a tea, no harm every now and then. But why against Rovers?!! Anyway, ref Colchester, I remember how strong they were at our place and their centre forward gave Greer a battering. I wouldn't be surprised if they were still up there come may. Tonight let's get something from the game and Saturday will be forgotten. We haven't become a bad team overnight.

Daunting - causing fear or discouragement; intimidating. discouraging through fear

Come on Danny this is league one, nothing's daunting in this division. Every game is winnable as we've found out this season.

Our lads should be going to places like Milton Keynes confident of winning. I don't want to hear words like daunting being used, unless we get Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal away in the FA Cup next year.

Think positive lads and beat the club stealers, to leave their play off hopes hanging by a thread!

RB - Think he was talking in the 3rd person / theoretically. If you read his comments he also states that he believes the games are all winnable but can look daunting if you look at the full picture and not the parts.
We'll be fine!!

I think we all need to hold our nerve. March was always going to be a tough month. It's perfectly feasible that we may only pick up 2 or 3 points from our next 4 games. However, once we’re into April the games become easier. I’m sure we’re gonna be there or thereabouts come the end of the season…. in fact it might even go down to the wire with us needing to beat Milwall at the Den to decide who’s in the play-offs.

Yes we should fear nobody in this division and am sure we can beat anyone.
problem a i see it s some posts have said, we need back for our existing squad, as on Sat they sounded all in. DW admits this and is looking for cover for the squad.
However this has gone on and on, is DW looking for players that are just not on the radar??? DW needs to be realistic in his search for cover.
Otherwise go with what we have, and they so far have done us proud. It's just injuries/suspensions should happen we will have major problems.
No doubt the next several weeks will be a task for them, I feel they will do it, so DW give them some support on the field

I think the only really "daunting" prospect for a professional footballer is to face his home crowd when they have turned against him. (or her) Playing in big matches is brilliant. Playing matches that don't mean much can be hard to fully focus. We do not have any of those for the rest of this season! Great. It is good to see that despite the pain of losing to the Gas heads again, the vast majority of postings have been realistic, concerned and still looking forward to the next game. C'mon you Reds!!

we have not scored for 2 games. We were unlucky not to score on saturday. In the first 20 minutes the rovers crowd must have been petrified they were in for another Leyton Orient score.

Important that we give an up tempo performance tonight, to a certain extent the result is less important than how we perform.I still fancy us to bounce back with a win.Would consider a couple of changes if I were DW, but I'm not and I dont think he will make any changes at all, hope we really get in thier faces COYR.
