Ferry claims Town are top two material

SIMON Ferry believes that Swindon Town are as good as any other side in the division on their home patch.

The on-loan midfielder was Town’s stand-out performer in the weekend draw with Charlton, dominating the middle of the park with partner Jonathan Douglas.

And the Celtic man claims that the way in which the side overwhelmed the Addicks for long periods of the contest proves that they have the beating of the majority of their League One peers.

“It gives us so much confidence when we’re outplaying these teams,” he said.

“Leeds, Charlton and Huddersfield have come here and we’ve been better than them. It’s just little things which are stopping us from being in the top two.

“There’s no reason why we can’t be up there. We’re very confident about what we can do this season.”

It is that driving ambition which has propelled Swindon up the league table this season, during which Ferry has been instrumental in the team’s successes.

The Scot continues to thrive in his temporary environment, and reiterated how much he is enjoying his football in Wiltshire.

“It’s a great team to play in,” he said. “When I first came here, the manager (Tony Mowbray) was worried about me coming to a place where they weren’t going to pass the ball. But he said that Danny Wilson would try and pass it and to be fair he’s lived up to his word.

“It’s a perfect team for me to come and play in.”

The 22-year-old admitted that Town lacked the mental strength to withstand Charlton’s late barrage on Saturday, but is confident that the squad will learn their lesson ahead of tonight’s clash with Oldham.

“The goal looked like it was going to come,” he said. “It’s definitely a mental thing. It’s nothing to do with ability, we just seem to panic a little bit.

“We stop doing the things that we’re good at in the last 10 minutes and that’s what’s frustrating us the most. We don’t know why we’re doing it.

“We’re going to have a chat about it and go from there.”

Ferry’s contributions to Swindon’s performances frequently go unnoticed, so his nomination as the sponsors’ man of the match on Saturday came as a refreshing surprise. Nevertheless, the Dundee native was quick to share the plaudits with his teammates.

“I’ve got to be good at something so I just run about. The boys have been finding good passes and that’s what makes the difference.

“If you’re making the runs and the ball doesn’t come to you then noone really sees you, but against Charlton some of the boys put in some nice balls, so it’s good to be noticed.”

This guy is great!

Hit the nail on the head too about Saturday!

We all saw it coming - I'm glad the palyers admit it too.

Now we just need to figure out how we can overcome it together.

Players need to calm down and think

DW needs to get the bodies in to give options

We the fans may need to start singing instead of getting restless

Then maybe the combo of all 3 may see us over the finish line.

"Ferry’s contributions to Swindon’s performances frequently go unnoticed" - I'm sure on several occasions I've heard a few thousand singing chants of "sign him up!"??

The last minute equaliser is becoming a big problem for Town.
If you remember, our former player Blair Sturrock was excellent at holding up play at the end of a game, by running into the corners etc., and although our current strikers are much better than Blair, they are not very good at holding up the ball in injury time - as Billy Paynter proved on Saturday, and led to Charlton's equaliser.
Billy is a 100% player, and gives so much energy during the game that he is exhausted in the final 15 minutes and doesn't get near to the action. - Perhaps Billy should be the one who is substituted, rather than Charlie Austin, even though Charlie is still struggling for 90 minutes.

Lack of quality cover is definitely a factor. The ten oufield players from Saturday have pretty much played every minute of every game for a couple of months apart from Lescinel replacing Sheehan, so fatigue (physical and mental) will creep in. We need to be able to bring on fresh legs/something different, which could be very effective as the couple of glimpses of Pericard have shown.

I think the late goal thing is in danger of becoming psychological. The players need to keep their shape and keep the ball. On Saturday, we started playing long, maybe going for the quick counter when we should have just kept it. I'm sure the players will become more determined to handle this, but quality subs will help.

Yeh, i`m sure that on every forum Ive looked at regarding the Town Ferry as been amongst the most praised so where did they get the "frequently unnoticed" part from.

I wonder if they felt the boos were coming too? Like some of you saw the goal coming.

I predict a Boo-tiful 4-0 home win tonight.

Top class player & top class character too. Enjoyed his feature on 'Late Kick Off' last night. A genuinely funny bloke, just as he was on the radio quiz with JD, DL & JPM.
I've noticed that he's making more & more clever & advanced runs recently, getting in 'the hole' (wahey) with Dougie hanging back a bit, hopefully this will result in more chances/goals for the mighty Town. SIGN HIM UP, SIGN HIM UP, SIGN HIM UP....
Charlton didn't deserve their point, but you have to give credit sometimes - they mullered us at the end and my immediate reaction was 'that was coming'. Mind you if we'd been calmer & more professional then we might've weathered their late storm.
I cannot believe that any of the boos were aimed at the players. If they were then ffs have a look at yourselves. Otherwise these fine footballers will think "Sod this, I'm gonna play elsewhere in front of decent and SUPPORTIVE fans." It's only acceptable when there's a lack of effort.
Overall though what a treat we are being served up with this season, absolutely loving it and cannot wait for tonight, even though it's gonna be proper taters.
