Aljofree has no care for Town after Latics move

HASNEY Aljofree admits he is unconcerned about Swindon’s plight now, as the defender looks to get his career back on track with Oldham.

The 31-year-old had his County Ground contract terminated last week before promptly signing for the Latics, and could feature tonight as the two sides clash in League One.

Aljofree is no stranger to pulling on Oldham’s blue and white shirt following a loan spell with the club in 2007, and is now fully focused on pulling his new employers away from the drop zone.

“I have been out for just over a year and I just can’t wait to get back to playing football again,” he said. “Obviously, it (the position in the table) could be better. But we have got games in hand and if you get one win, that can soon snowball for you.

“The lads are all sound and the manager Dave Penney has them all in high spirits.

“I saw it (the Swindon game) on the fixture list and sometimes football brings these sorts of things around. But I am not concerned about Swindon now and my focus is on Athletic.”

Former Plymouth and Bolton man Aljofree hasn’t played a first team game since December 2008 due to a serious knee injury. But he is confident of getting back to full fitness and believes Oldham was the right move to make.

“I have never been injured before and having a year out of the game is mental torture.

“The rehab process was a very slow one and a lot goes through your mind. I am just glad I am out of the woods now.

“Working with the surgeon and the fitness coach at Swindon I made sure that everything was done right.

“I had been looking for a move for a couple of months and had a few offers here and there. But I wanted to make sure the deal was right.”

I think that's just intro copy from the author just to make you read on. If you read his comments on the OAFC site, he's actually very complimentary about Town.

plight (plural plights)

1. A dire or unfortunate situation.

2. Condition; state; — risk, or exposure to danger

Are you sure that's the right word Mr Marshall?

For goodness sake Adver, get another sports writer. "Plight". Anyone would think Town were on there verge of relegation instead of on the verge of the play-off's!

Oh, and Hasney a word or two of thanks for the way Town have got you fit again to rebuild your career wouldn't have gone amiss.

Can't see you getting a warm welcome this evening somehow.

Why would he focus on us anymore, he's got a new club.
Nothing story.
Best of luck, shame it never worked out for you here.

"Obviously it is a nice touch to go back as I still have a lot of friends and strong ties at Swindon.

"Danny Wilson had moulded a fantastic team...He has done well and long may it continue...but only after tomorrow's match as I am now an Oldham Athletic player.

"After the game I will shake hand and speak to my friends but, come the game, is all about getting three points for Oldham"

It's funny how editing what someone says can completely change the tone and sentiment behind it.

your right....but a small thankyou wouldn't have gone a miss seeing has he's been mostly sat on his backside for the past 12 months picking up 3-4k a week. but still lording it up in the nightclubs at the weekend. never forget his hand gesture to town fans, or his constant moaning at ifil when things wern't going well knowing full well jerel was a confidance player.
i for one will not be giving him a welcome back round of applause tonight...... big time charlie wannabe.

Read the blog from Oldham's site and Hasney has very good words to say on Danny and the team. Its quite obvious Mr Marshall that any players allegiance will be with their new club. Aljofree did have some issue with Town fans so could get the boos tonight. Lets hope he plays and Billy and Charlie can fill their boots. YOOUUU REDDDSSS.

Well Aljofree "hasney" got many fans on here eh? As MikeK and others state before slating the bloke perhaps read what his actual comments were.

I won't be booing HA this evening, never a favourite player of mine, but he has moved on and that's the end of it.

Come on you reds I'd take a 1-0 at the moment, but hoping for 3 Swindon goals this evening.

Entirely different subject, so my apologies for that. I thought the following might stir a bit of nostalgia. And bearing in mind today's football economy, it also includes a nice touch of irony at the end. From the editorial page of the programme for Manchester City v Town - Wednesday 18th September 1963: "Welcome tonight to Swindon Town, the team which has so far been the sensation of the Second Division and which is the only unbeaten side in the section. Swindon made a brilliant start to the season with six successive victories and only dropped their first point last Saturday when they drew with Leeds United at Elland Road - no mean performance. The City team can testify that Swindon are in no way flattered by their proud position at the head of the table for the Blues were well beaten (3-0) at Swindon last week by a smart combination which has conceded only four goals in seven games whilst scoring seventeen itself. At a time when so much is being written and proposed for the segregation of the Soccer classes into Super-leagues it is refreshing to see clubs such as our visitors tonight confirming the glorious uncertainty of football by proving that the cheque book is not the only way to Soccer success."

Oi Den for 1963 read 2010 bar the miserly defence!! Brillaint.
Listening to Radio 5 last night talking how 90% of clubs cold go bust. Not that I haven't realised it but its just incredible to support the Town at the moment. The world is good and the only way is up.
ps how are Colchester allowed to play on that pitch? its like going back to the 70's!

Yes - Colchester pitch is diabolical.
I was very impressed with Tilson's refusal to blame the surface, despite the Sky people trying to put words into his mouth and suggesting to John Ward (Col U assistant manager) that Southend would be likely to blame the pitch!

Oh I dunno , give him some stick down the town end , If Charlton can use every trick in the book maybe we should try it if it gets points , I am trying to remember the game when the town end faithfull gave one of the opposing players so much stick he completely lost his composure , gotta be worth a shout in the last 15 mins if only for the entertainment value :0) Nothing nasty just good healthy barracking to give the lads that 12th man lift .

The prices are ridiculous. I have to get the afternoon off work and travel before 4.30pm. A return ticket after that to get you into Swindon before games is over £120 which is disgusting. Not to mention getting back after game. Hope you can make it tonight as think it'll be good chance to get 3 points and town play well with big crowds.

Back to the article, don't forget our left back from Leeds made similar comments about his parent club after signing a long term loan deal with us.

Any player who represents a club should be 100% focussed on the club they play for, not a former employee.

Just a tip, if you're travelling out of peak hours in future for whatever reason... get a single off peak from Paddington to Didcot Parkway, and a seperate single from Didcot Parkway to Swindon. It's cheaper (About £20 from memory) than going from Paddington to Swindon or vice versa.

stfclondon, says...
3:24pm Tue 9 Feb 10

It definitely works out cheaper if you split the journey, but you are restricted to trains that stop at Didcot. An off-peak day return from Paddington to Didcot is £20 (£13.20 with a Network Railcard or Annual Gold Card) and from Didcot to Swindon is £8.90.
