SWINDON TOWN: Wilson confident on loan deals

DANNY Wilson has guaranteed Town fans there will be new faces arriving at the County Ground imminently after the emergency loan window opened yesterday.

Wilson only added one player to his roster during January in the form of striker Vincent Pericard, and the Swindon boss revealed he was confident of snapping up a handful of temporary acquisitions to bolster the club’s bid for promotion out of League One.

“Some players will definitely be coming in,” Wilson told the Advertiser.

“We don’t have anything after this window so we have to make sure that we do bring someone in.”

Despite denying fitness was a factor as Town let in another late goal against Charlton on Saturday, Wilson admitted he was thin on the ground in terms of playing resources.

“We haven’t got a big squad,” he said.

“What you saw on Saturday, without Alan Sheehan and Vincent, is what we’ve got on the bench, and that is it.”

The Town manager confirmed he has already made preliminary inquiries for several players, and is currently waiting on replies.

And Wilson was optimistic the new additions would arrive in time for the trip to Huddersfield Town on Saturday, although he remained adamant he would not make panic signings.

“There are lots of phone calls going in as usual, although nothing will happen before the game (against Oldham),” he said.

“Hopefully by Saturday we’ll have some good news, but at this moment in time we won’t have anything for tomorrow night.

“We’ve got to have some sort of backup.

“Ideally we’d like to get our first choices but we’ll wait and see how they pan out.”

Wilson refused to reveal most of the names of players he was targeting, but confirmed an approach had been made for winger Matt Ritchie, who is currently plying his trade for beleaguered Premier League side Portsmouth.

“He’s one of them, but again they may have the same sort of problem we have,” said Wilson.

“They’ve got no players at Portsmouth, so whether they’ll let them out at this moment in time is arguable.

“We’re just waiting for answers to come back.”

I hope this time we see some faces in -also they don't have 'hamstring' problems .......

I think fitness is an issue at present and is contributing to our late goal problem.

I'm not saying the lads are unfit - like they have been in the past - but are tired due to the same 11 playing week in week out. Thus the "leggy" comment by DW after the Leeds game.

This scenario was seen at Villa last season where O'Neil only had 16 players to select from and they ran out of steam to get 4th.

We need a few new bodies to give options, allow a much deserved rest and to give everyone that little kick up the a**e to get us firing on all cylinders again.

The perfect example of this is Billy - he was rested earlier as he played every minute as a lone striker. The arrival of Revell and the period out of the team really worked as since he came back he has been on fire.

Even if the new bodies were simply to give us a bench where you look at it and think yes they can really make an impact - as on Saturday the only one I felt could do something was O'Brien and he is not match fit.

Whereas a bench also including Pericard, Ritchie and Caddis would suddenly change things.

Think it will be a mixture of old and new targets.

DW wanted perm signings in Jan - so he may try to get those on loan with a view to signing in the summer.

Also he may now being going for slightly different targets as they will just be loans.

As we only know of Ritchie and Caddis - anyone else we will never know if they are new or old

Good point Inky. (I assume you are talking about Pericard). Do you think there is something we're not being told? Longest recuperation period for a "slight hamstring problem" I've ever known.

Well we do seem to suffer a lot from this - even looking back to the days of 'sicknote Monkhouse'
Not sure about the Vincent P situation and OBrian - are we lacking in the training or warmups or treatment of this - or on the cynical side is there as you suggest a hidden agenda.
With a bare bone squad it is risky.

I'm sure the Gaffer will get some new blood in this time around and I hope the Pericard and O'brien situations are resolved soon so they are available for every match during the run in. Hopefully not too long before Sheehan is back too, so these guys added to perhaps 3 or 4 decent loan signings, and we can consolidate our playoff place at worst. This could turn out to be a defining week for the Club and it's ambitions for Promotion this season. If we get the right guys then I honestly feel we maintain our impressive form and then, who knows??

Security words drop-vote..... I vote not a chance in hell LOL

Very strange that Pericard didn't miss a game for Carlisle United in the first half of the season, yet since his arrival here, he has been a permanent "Sick-Note".
This situation needs to improve very quickly.

Players in is always a good thing! I'd expect to see us after Ritchie with a view to a permenant move, we'll probably enquire about Caddis but I can't see us getting him as he's been playing fairly often for celtic off the bench.

I think we need:
Left wing (Ritchie + obrien fit)

Right side (Caddis was the target, but we desperately need cover!)

Central mid (cover required, we still can't cover dougie even though we've seen how not having him available affects the team)

I think we're fine for strikers with Billy, Charlie, Vince (when fit) and Ward

Security word: Play-Next, so bring on Oldham!

I'd definately like another striker. You can't have enough of them! Also havent DW and Af got a list of 5 players in each position. Chop to it boys! I'm joking, we trust you take your time gentleman.

Pericard and O'Brien are both fit for the bench tonight I am led to believe

Pericard is definitely fit - it's on the official site.
He's gonna come on & get his first goal for the Town tonight, you just watch. He's gonna knock Aljofree out of the way like he's a rag-doll, then absolutely cream one that the keeper won't even sniff.
