SIMON Cox revealed he left Swindon with a heavy heart, having completed a £1.9million move to West Brom earlier this week.
The 22-year-old striker spoke for the first time since his transfer this morning at a press conference in the Midlands, at which the Advertiser was present.
And Cox couldn't talk highly enough of his time in Wiltshire, which set him up for his next step up the football ladder.
“I believed in myself to move down a league to come back up. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Swindon - lovely people and a great club.
“The chairman and manager were superb with me but now I’ve got the opportunity to play in a higher league with a big club, and I’ve got to take that.
“I can’t emphasise how much of a nice club that is. They were superb with me, and under the new manager they should do alright this year."
Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo said: “I’ve seen Simon personally over the past year, followed him, and I think he has all the attributes to become a successful player for us at West Brom.
“His goalscoring record is very, very good, and he is a young, talented, hungry player who wants to move on and show the rest of the world what kind of player he is. I think that’s the kind of player we are looking for.
“I think it’s unfair to compare him to anyone else - he is his own player in his own right. He is a very intelligent player and very good in-and-around the box, finding the space and playing offthe main striker.
“These are his strengths and I’m confident he will score a lot of goals for us."

Cox was a great player for us but in my view was no where near to a 'legend'. A legend (in footballing terms) is someone who serves the club well over a sustained period and has a rapport with the fans. Cox as done none of this. Undoubtedly Coxy did brilliantly over his one and a half seasons but I never got the impression he really had his heart and soul in the club. Still, no hard feelings towards the guy and I'm sure he'll do well in the future.

The lad has gone. Get over it. He was never a Town player. He used us and we used him. It suited us both for him to use Town as a steppng stone. This has and always will happen while we languish in the 3rd rank of English footall. Its the way of the football world. A premiership player wanting to hang on at STFC? Dont think so. We did the right thing, got shot, grab the money and move on and grab another kid.
