Swindon Town track Alan

IT looks like being a case of one in, one out at the County Ground next week, as Danny Wilson’s squad rebuilding continues ahead of the 2009-10 season.

While prized asset Simon Cox just needs to pass a medical to complete his £2million transfer to Championship outfit West Brom, Wilson is in talks to bring in a third signing of the summer.

Town’s boss is understood to be discussing terms with former Newcastle winger Alan O’Brien, who was released by Hibernian at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international is being tracked by a handful of League One clubs, but Wilson has made his move early to land the pacy wideman.

Meanwhile Cox’s transfer to the Baggies appears almost be cut and dried after new manager Roberto Di Matteo gave the switch his blessing.

A £2million fee was agreed between the clubs last week - a time when there was no-one in the Hawthorns hotseat.

However, with ex-MK Dons chief Di Matteo unveiled yesterday, he immediately approved the Cox move.

“I am aware of the deal and that we have agreed terms,” said the Italian.

“The player will be coming next week for a medical. He’s a player I know well he’s got a good scoring record and I am very happy for the deal to go ahead. I will be happy to have him as part of my squad.”

Meanwhile ex-Town striker Barry Corr has signed for League One rivals Exeter City.

The big Irishman was expected to spend pre-season training with Bournemouth but has agreed a permanent switch to St James’ Park.

Another injury prone player who has had his latest contract cancelled by mutual consent a year early.

Before anyone says it's moaning, it's the facts in a nutshell.

Do we want this type of player?

He sounds a decent player, so lets hope the BBC havnt jumped the gun.

Do the adver have any sources at the club any more? our interest was broken by sky sports and if he has signed that was reported 1st by the BBC. The adver seems to just report news broken 24 hours earlier by other sources which is pretty bad for a local rag that should be close to the club

However with Greer and Lucas I do believe they are 2 excellent signings.DW is the right type of manager for us, hekows his way about the lower divisions As to Robinson has he actually signed for Huddersfield, or again is speculation. Good luck to Barry Corr just might be his injury days are over like many of us we wish him well. He's definately a right winger.

As for the other signing i'm not sure who it is only that the club are trying to announce a double signing. The only thing i know is he is a central midfielder so could well be Douglas.

I work with a Hibs fan who said the following:

"Let’s just say he didn’t quite perform to his full potential at hibs.

Having said that, he played in most games last season, but still did f*ck all. He’s super quick but lacks any skill...a bit of a Forrest Gump.

We bought him as a replacement for Ivan Sproule who was a million times better.

Good luck..."

Good player but always injured, eventually leaving having hardly played for nearly 2 seasons.

Statement from the o/s is that O'Brien will be having talks on Sunday. It also mentions DW looking to add a further 4 players to the squad (including O'Brien). Personally I don't think that's quite enough, we need at least 5 IMO. That's unless we've got a cast iron guarantee from Reading that Kanu will be here next season on loan?

With O'Brien and possibly Douglas coming here for free, that would mean we'd have potentially big bucks left from the sale of Cox to splash on another couple of players.... Akinfenwa?

Big target man, awkward but quite skillful, holds the ball up well, good upper body strength, difficult to dispossess and still quite pacy. Ideal centre forward in my opinion bit like Heskey in some ways.

Exactly, we need someone in the Heskey mould who will always be in and around the penalty area when crosses come in. Far too often last season Macca/HRK/JPM were putting in crosses but no one was in the box! Akinfenwa would be a perfect signing in that sense.

As a Hibs fan living in Swindon I support both teams. I've seen O'Brien on numerous occasions and apart from one decent cross in one game he offered nothing, and I mean nothing. On Wednesday I was delighted that Hibs had paid up his contract and I wouldn't have to watch this joker again, but no he's haunting me. Don't expect anything from him he is utterly hopeless

Akinfenwa?
why do you like akinfenwa so much. hes huge and not as quick as he used to be!surely there are much better players available?
Big target man, awkward but quite skillful, holds the ball up well, good upper body strength, difficult to dispossess and still quite pacy. Ideal centre forward in my opinion bit like Heskey in some ways.
Exactly, we need someone in the Heskey mould who will always be in and around the penalty area when crosses come in. Far too often last season Macca/HRK/JPM were putting in crosses but no one was in the box! Akinfenwa would be a perfect signing in that sense.
I must say STID this might be The first time i have agree with you.
AKINFENWA would be a great signing.
Cant see it happening but that is the sort of striker we nead at STFC,with BP playing as a atacking/MID..

On O'Brein even if The fans dont like him!!TUFF DW Is the manager and what he says is final.

Anyway lets HOPE.WE HAVE SOME

Hibs fans saying their boo-boys destroyed his confidence from day 1 because he replaced a player they loved. Miserable, dour jocks. PLEASE MAKE SURE WE DON'T DO THE SAME (if he signs) - GET BEHIND HIM & MAKE HIM FEEL GOOD (oo-er, that sounds a bit saucy). After seeing both games vs Northampton last season, I'd also like to see Akinfenwa at Swindon. Don't be put off by his massive ar5e. He's pretty mobile, the ball sticks to him, he's good in the air, he scores & creates goals. He's proved that he can do a good job in League 1, even with those humungous buttocks!
You like his big ar5e? Glad that's cleared up then.... moving on....
Started our weekend early have we?! Pace yourself, it's only 5..... FYI I do like a good-sized rump - but it has to be a female one, if it's all the same with you.....eg Alesha Dixon's or Davina McCall's......HUMMAN A HUMMANA HUMMANA
Alicia Keys has got a nice un too!
Yeh good shout. These bony types put me off my food, and that's not easy.

The more I think about Akinfenwa, the more I want him.....NO, NOT IN THAT WAY, AVO.
