Crawley to swoop for Benson (From This Is Swindon Town FC)

Need to keep Flint as back up. I would rather have him in the centre back pairing over Macca at the moment. Personally I think Macca is the weakest link of the starting 11 at present. Still like him though so don't get me wrong.

Hi Ollie Reeds Party Dance - I have to disagree with you re Macca - I think he gives us a better balance at left back than Jay Mc. Maccas distribution and link up play is far better than Jay's and he doesn't waste many passes either. Plus, he drives forward with the ball rather than lumping it every time too.

I agree we need to keep Flint though!

Isn't it time to open talks with Flint for a further two year contract, seems most of the enquiries are coming from lower league clubs who I doubt would be able to offer him the same level of contract that we can, all the same I think the lad has enough potential for us to keep him and he is very much a part of the present squad.

For me Macca is idolised by town fans and whilst I like him he gives the ball away a lot, he also dives in too quick at times and gets beaten to easily in right or left back, but as a centre back he is quality.

Tend to agree with Hookey on this - the 'stats' are pretty conclusive.... Don't see any reason why Flint couldn't get first team football somewhere else on loan but with a recall option... that gets money off the wage bill and opens up a possible permanent move?

Players like Flint certainly are not two a penny.
Yes Flint is a no nonsense defender of the old school variety, but just look at his progression, given where he has started from.
Flint, even if he is not playing at present is absolutely vital to any promotion push.
If we offered him to the football market in the window, there would be a good queue asking to spend their two penny's worth.
It is a surprise that Devera is playing as well as he is, given his early season indifferent form in changing positions..
However the difference between early season and now is WARD..
I was not convinced about Ward early on, but DiCanio is no mug and so I, maybe like many, reserved judgment in favour of giving him time to settle.
In that settling in period he has forged a superb partnership with Devera.
Once again, given time and opportunity, I think Ward would help Flint to improve his defensive game in the same way.
As for not letting in goals since Flint is out of the side, I would say that has more to do with the fact we are defending better throughout the whole team now, especially since the team is more settled in terms of an almost settled first eleven,

As to ALAN MAC, I feel there are times when he can look a little vunerable at left back, but wherever he plays, he does a superb job.
To borrow an Amercanism, the play of the season so far for me, was the Alan Mac, Matt Ritchie, James Collins combination for one of the five goasl against Portsmouth !!!

Ritchie tucks in behind his marker and is pointing where he wants Macca to put the ball.
Looking up Macca sees Ritchies movement and fires a ball that Lampard, Gerrard or Scoles would be proud of, right in behind the left back.
Ritchie out paces the defence, reaches the dead ball line and pulls it back for Collins to score again.
My favorite moment of the season so far, and like often in the recent past, all started from Alan Mac.

Having said all that, Jay would probably still be my first choice left back.

It's great to have quality options though.

My fave moments so far are the 1st and 3rd goals against Carlisle..one moment of brilliance (opportunity was created by Maccas quick thinking incidentally!), and a beautiful piece of counter attacking. If both these goals had been scored in the prem by a Van Persie or a Tevez, the MOTD pundits would be drooling!

Aden Flint wins every ball in the air, and is a very dominant defender.
It would be madness to even consider losing him to another club.

Quick and to the point, agreed.

McCormack's tendency to lose composure at the end of his runs is a bit of a drawback, as is his occasional drifing out of position, but I think he's a better player than McEveley. If I was told we'd have to sacrifice one of those two or Flint, it would not be Flint. He is still a bit raw, as evidenced by his rash challenges this season, but he has time on his side. When he eventually reappeared after his last suspension, it looked as if the penny had dropped and he was concentrating on keeping his discipline. I think we are very lucky to have a player of his quality and potential in reserve.

Totally disagree with you comments look at the stats and you will find Flint was in teams with many many clean sheets. How on earth you can call him a "two a penny hoof it anywhere" obviously you have not attended many games. Looking at your spelling you could even be a Poxford schoolkid.
