Turner trial ended

IAIN Turner's trial at Swindon Town has been brought to an end.

The goalkeeper began training with the club last week and was involved in Town's friendly at Salisbury on Friday night.

But the Scot played for Bristol Rovers against Bristol City the following day, and Town boss Paolo Di Canio has allowed him to pursue a contract with the Gas.

Well at least he should get games on a regular basis, maybe a longer stretch than he's had a chance to up 'til now.

I thought Rovers wanted him as a second choice keeper, so won't he be sitting on the bench just like he would have been here?

If rovers wanted him as a 2nd choice then I cans see why we didn't go for him!

No idea who is going to bring in as a second choice keeper. We need someone better than Smith was but is content to be in and out of the side. Might be worth swooping for a younger player of sticking with Bedwell?

This has been a curious situation concerning Iain Turner.
Was he trying to play one club against the other ?
If that was the case then Paolo would not have been the man to try to bargain with.
The story ends.

Idont think PDC likes our art as that is a Turner and a Constable he has turned down now.

VP, I think there are 2 redundant words in your post. We need someone who is better than Smith but is content to be out of the side. Someone better than Smith who is content with that situation is going to be hard to find.

OS, I'm sure you're trying to read too much into this. He was on trial with 2 clubs to maximise his chances of getting a deal. If both had offered him a contract, I don't doubt that he would have chosen us. He wasn't in the sort of position of strength you need if you want to consider playing one club off against the other. Too much risk of ending up with nowt.

I think they are after somebody who can do a job on a regular basis, this is the only position they can't rotate without decent cover. No position is safe , and if you have an off day you fight for your place back, this includes the goalie

Turner would have has his reasons. This has still left us with the dilemma of the season approaching and we only having 2 keepers. Bedwell is definitely one for the future but I am not sure he is ready to step in for wes if need be. I am sure the PDC as the position on his radar as I am sure that he wouldn't want to go into the season with 2 keepers

Dilemma ? The transfer market must surely contain a few second string goalies and the season should start with a fit and an in-form Wes.. Should Bedwell flop in an unexpected opportunity I`m sure Paolo will have something up his sleeve to remedy the situation. .

I will do it , don't really want to play so fingers crossed Fods does not get sent off as that's the only way I will get a game. Yeah I will sit on the bench for 46 + games no problemo Paolo.

McCormick even, personally would not object to that, but there are plenty that will.

On another note, Richie Barker will be in the dugout for the creepy Crawlies for our first home league game.

I'm not sure if we ever needed a sub goalie last season or the previous, but do remember Smithy coming on for Lucus in the play-off against Charlton the season before that.

We have to have a back up keeper of some quality not just for during a game but say Wes gets injured in training on a Friday or Saturday morning or during warm-up?

How is Bedwell looking? I've been on holiday so have missed games so far, can't wait for tomorrow!

Also message for SAPFanSTFC - have the last seasons results been pulished and is there a new predictions league starting?

I can recite it backwards with my eyes shut - Downsborough, Thomas, Trollopp, Butler, Burrows, Harland, Smith, Smart, Noble, Rogers, Heath, sub Penman - noble (if you pardon the pun) mention to Owen Dawson & Chris Jones that season.

I always thought it was Heath, Smart, Smith, Noble and Rogers. And you do John Trollope no favours, by spelling his name wrong.

Steve, if you list them in shirt number order from 1 to 11 (probably 2 to 11 actually, as keepers didn't wear a number then), the last 5 should be Heath, Smart, Smith, Noble, Rogers.
Owen Dawson was very unlucky to miss that game, having stood in ably for Trollope for most of the season.

I reckon Peter Noble could have won the Olympic high jump! He was only 5'8" but often seemed to be higher than the crossbar when he headed the ball. Brave player and would do anything to score even if he got injured in the process. A true great.
