  • "Still don't see why we need so many subs, even if we can only use 3 of them. The game is basically 11 v 11. The more subs allowed, the more advantage is given to clubs with strength in depth, i.e. usually those with the most money. I don't see how it helps the game to have so many tactical options. 3 subs should be enough to avoid the possibility of games being reduced to farce by injuries to one side or the other."

Football League votes for seven subs

MEMBERS of the Football League have voted in favour of the reintroduction of seven substitutes from next season.

Managers of the 72 clubs were only allowed five options from the bench in 2011/12, but Derby and Birmingham's proposals to revert back to seven substitutes next term have been resoundingly backed by club chairmen at the Football League's annual conference in Portugal.
