SWINDON TOWN: Wilson fires warning to Addicks

DANNY Wilson has warned Charlton that they will have to be “on top of their game” if the Addicks want to take anything away from the County Ground this afternoon.

Town play host to League One’s third-placed side, hoping to close the gap even further on the top teams, and are expected to run out in front of a bumper crowd of around 11,000 at the County Ground.

Wilson knows only too well how much of a threat the visitors will pose, but is confident his in-form side can rise to the challenge.

“Charlton have got a threat in wide areas, up the front, midfield, the full-backs are adventurous and they are a good side,” explained Swindon’s manager.

“There is a very talented squad there. I looked at the subs on the bench the other night and four or five of them would walk into the team, no problem.

“They could change their team around for when they come to us, and that’s the beauty of having the squad that they do because they can strengthen or change it round at any given time.

“The fans will look to this game as one of the big ones, along with Leeds and Southampton, and this is a great game for us to play in as Charlton have got great history and tradition.

“But because they were a Premier League team a few years ago doesn’t give them the right to think they will roll teams over, because that won’t happen.”

When the sides met on Boxing Day at the Valley it was honours even in a dramatic 2-2 draw, which saw Charlton reduced to nine men before snatching a 95th-minute equaliser.

And Wilson, pictured below, believes Town’s performance on that day may have made Phil Parkinson’s side sit up and take note of their potential.

“We were disappointed to not get three points,” he admitted.

“It’s gone and it doesn’t serve any purpose now, but maybe it will make them understand that we are half a decent team and that they will have to be on top of their game.

“It should be a great game and hopefully the same atmosphere as we experienced against Leeds.

“It helps the game, helps the players and we will be hoping for the same sort of response again from the fans.

“This is big game against a very talented team, but we have got the opportunity to cement our place in the play-off places and claw back a few points off Charlton.”
