TOWN boss Danny Wilson has temporarily shelved plans for a new left-back, after admitting the performances of Lecsinel Jean-Francois have been “a massive boost.”

A new full-back was high on Swindon’s summer shopping list but Wilson missed out on Andy Taylor, who switched from Tranmere to Sheffield United in July.

However the displays of Jean-Francois and Callum Kennedy - his rival for the berth - means the manager will look to strengthen elsewhere first.

“If (a left-back) became available then we would look at it, but the way that Lecsinel’s stepped in there has been a massive boost,” revealed Wilson.

“Callum is also getting better and better with all the training and the few games he has played.

“It’s not a priority, but if something became available we would have to look at it.”

Jean-Francois arrived at the County Ground on trial in January and earned a contract until the end of last season, which was then extended by 12 months in the summer.

The Haiti international has started all four of Town’s fixtures so far this season, and Wilson believes he has all the raw ingredients to become a key part of the team.

“You have to remember that Lecsinel is a very young boy who’s only 22-years-old and has hardly played any league football at all,” said the boss.

“He will make mistakes and decisions that will cost us at times, but we feel we’ve got a very good player on our hands and patience is needed.

“He has got great ability and a terrific left foot. His size and stature means he will get better and stronger with every week he works with us and I think he will develop into an extremely good player.”

Meanwhile, former Town midfielder Chris Allen has signed on a non-contract basis for Conference South outfit Weymouth.

The Devizes-born player was one of 13 players released from the County Ground in the summer and spent pre-season training with Exeter City in the hope of earning a deal at St James’ Park.

However, he was surplus to requirements with Swindon’s League One rivals and made his debut for the Terras last weekend.
