IT looks like being a case of one in, one out at the County Ground next week, as Danny Wilson’s squad rebuilding continues ahead of the 2009-10 season.
While prized asset Simon Cox just needs to pass a medical to complete his £2million transfer to Championship outfit West Brom, Wilson is in talks to bring in a third signing of the summer.
Town’s boss is understood to be discussing terms with former Newcastle winger Alan O’Brien, who was released by Hibernian at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international is being tracked by a handful of League One clubs, but Wilson has made his move early to land the pacy wideman.
Meanwhile Cox’s transfer to the Baggies appears almost be cut and dried after new manager Roberto Di Matteo gave the switch his blessing.
A £2million fee was agreed between the clubs last week - a time when there was no-one in the Hawthorns hotseat.
However, with ex-MK Dons chief Di Matteo unveiled yesterday, he immediately approved the Cox move.
“I am aware of the deal and that we have agreed terms,” said the Italian.
“The player will be coming next week for a medical. He’s a player I know well he’s got a good scoring record and I am very happy for the deal to go ahead. I will be happy to have him as part of my squad.”
Meanwhile ex-Town striker Barry Corr has signed for League One rivals Exeter City.
The big Irishman was expected to spend pre-season training with Bournemouth but has agreed a permanent switch to St James’ Park.

Another injury prone player who has had his latest contract cancelled by mutual consent a year early. Before anyone says it's moaning, it's the facts in a nutshell. Do we want this type of player?

O'Brien will give us extra pace up front, which is what we would have got from Robinson. However, most people saw Robinson as a replacement for Cox, whereas this guy is a winger. So I imagine we can still expect to see the addition of 2 more central strikers?

Lets face it we have not had much luck this season so far in attracting players.
However with Greer and Lucas I do believe they are 2 excellent signings.DW is the right type of manager for us, hekows his way about the lower divisions As to Robinson has he actually signed for Huddersfield, or again is speculation. Good luck to Barry Corr just might be his injury days are over like many of us we wish him well. To release him again was the right decision, as to new strikers DW will I am sure bring in the right calibre of player

Statement from the o/s is that O'Brien will be having talks on Sunday. It also mentions DW looking to add a further 4 players to the squad (including O'Brien). Personally I don't think that's quite enough, we need at least 5 IMO. That's unless we've got a cast iron guarantee from Reading that Kanu will be here next season on loan? With O'Brien and possibly Douglas coming here for free, that would mean we'd have potentially big bucks left from the sale of Cox to splash on another couple of players.... Akinfenwa?
