SIMON Cox's £2million transfer to West Bromwich Albion moved a step closer today as new Baggies' boss Roberto Di Matteo confirmed he was happy for the deal to go ahead.
Di Matteo, who was unveiled at a press conference at the Hawthorns this morning, claimed he was both aware of the deal and an admirer of Town's 32-goal hitman. Cox has agreed terms with West Brom and will complete a medical early next week.
"I am aware of the deal and that we have agreed terms," said Di Matteo.
"The player will be coming in next week for a medical.
"He is a very good player, has a very good scoring record and I am happy for the deal to go ahead."
Meanwhile, Town are believed to be in talks with former Hibernian winger Alan O'Brien about a switch to the County Ground.

Will we ever be in the championship again ????..If we sell all our best players i dont think so.
We now need a forward and a new midfield not 2 players more like 5
Adios

It's a shame we can't attract real quality players and keep quality players like Coxy at this club. Without that I fear the Championship will be as big a dream as the prem was. Good luck Coxy, and thanks for keeping us up!

If only I could win the Euro millions roll-over. Town would have a Chairman that would propell this club forward...

What I and other fans take issue with is a certain number of fans who accuse this club ofhaving no ambition, not moving forward and thinking we are going to take on the new season with this team. This is not true. A player like Cox is never going to stay at a league 1 club no matter how ambitious they are.The sponsership deals the club now have are so huge when put in context its frankly laughable not t call them ambitious (EA games...one of the biggest sponsership deals outside of premieship ever?). And when you look at the quality of players we are chasing I would say we are being almost to ambitious hence why 'bigger' clubs join in the race. It has been a long time since this football club was so forward looking. There are still several months for DW to put his squad together so why are people getting upset now? Think of where we were a few years ago. Things are much brighter now. Thats why we are positive nd not looking for the worst in every STFC related news story. You should try it sometime.
careful guys, the blinded by the red and white light crew will soon be labelling you as a bunch of moaning, armchair fans for your hints of realism in those statements of yours tut tut... how dare you be so realistic in your assessment of our current lack of depth or quality in the squad - shame on you!!

In little over 18 months Simon has become a legend at the County Ground, probably even surpassing the great Super Sammy Parkin.
I wish Simon all the best for the future !
