Swindon Town 0 - Brighton 2

A BRACE from Brighton skipper Nicky Forster condemned Town to defeat in Danny Wilson's first game in charge.

Forster scored either side of the interval to sink a Swindon side that lacked any real cutting edge in the final third of the pitch.

Michael Timlin's first-half free-kick that struck a post was the closest Town came, while Brighton were clinical with the few chances that came their way.

Here are the key moments from today's game:

5 mins: JP McGovern cuts in from the left and tries to thread a slide-rule pass into the feet of Simon Cox, but the ball runs through to Brighton goalkeeper John Sullivan.

7 mins: Stuart Fleetwood escapes the clutches of Pat Kanyuka and rolls a ball into the path of Adam Virgo, who brings a fine save out of Peter Brezovan at his near post.

9 mins: Michael Timlin's cross is headed goalwards by Lee Peacock, but the ball is deflected behind for a corner to Town.

16 mins: Craig Easton is fouled by Kevin McLeod, and from the resulting free-kick Timlin strikes the outside of the post.

17 mins: McGovern's wicked cross from the left is headed behind under pressure by Brighton defender Adam Hinshelwood. Swindon are starting to take control.

26 mins: Cox miscontrols the ball but recovers, skips past two Brighton challenges before firing high into the Town End behind Sullivan's goal.

30 mins: McGovern catches Andy Whing in possession but his centre is just too high for the advancing Cox.

37 mins: A scare for Town. McLeod's cross was only half cleared by Brezovan, and when the ball eventually broke for McLeod again the winger shot high and wide with his weaker right foot.

43 mins: GOAL (0-1). Brighton stun Town on the break. Matt Richards feeds Fleetwood, who touches the ball on for skipper Nicky Forster to fire home.

HALF TIME

51 mins: GOAL (0-2). Brezovan fails to collect a long punt forward by his opposite number Sullivan, and in the confusion Timlin fouls Fleetwod in the box. Forster calmly slots home the penalty to give the visitors a two-goal cushion.

53 mins: Danny Wilson makes his first changes as Swindon manager, replacing Blair Sturrock and Lilian Nalis with Barry Corr and Anthony McNamee.

55 mins: The two subs combine, Corr flicking the ball on for McNamee, whose left wing cross is deflected behind for a corner.

64 mins: Cox brings McGovern into play with a lovely flick, but the cross is poor. The ball eventually breaks to Peacock on the edge of the box, but he drags a left-foot shot well wide.

70 mims: A looping high ball breaks kindly for McLeod on the Brighton left, but he fails to trouble Brezovan with a tame half-volley.

72 mins: YELLOW CARD (Virgo). The Brighton midfielder becomes the first player to enter Oliver Langford's book with a late lunge on Barry Corr.

73 mins: McGovern's left-foot drive from 25 yards loops just over the Brighton bar.

75 mins: Virgo is replaced by Glenn Murray. The substitute almost scores with his first touch, arriving late before shooting into the side netting.

77 mins: YELLOW CARD (Fraser). A second booking in quick succession for Brighton as Tom Fraser is penalised for a foul on Craig Easton.

87 mins: McLeod turns Ifil before firing well over the bar. The winger is then replaced by Kerry Mayo for the final few minutes.

Wilson really didn't help himself with his team selection, if he's going to favour the punt up the field, then we need bigger strikers.
This is the first game I've been to this season, and will certainly be my last (not a local), but for the Eight and a half thousand there, it was so very poor. Easton was a waste of space, the defenders were shambolic, and couldn't handle the long ball over the top, Cox is a whiney little child and McNamee wimps out of every challenge. He's great with the ball at his feet, but off the ball he was useless.

If a team comes in for Cox in January, we should accept, get the cash up front and use it to buy 3 decent players including a creative midfielder.

Wilson has a big task ahead of him, I just didn't realise how big until today!

What can i say, everything to play for, new manager, good crowd, a win to build on and playing at home. Against a team with a worse record than us this season, very dissapointing result. I feel sure now that the present squad just do not have what it takes to play first division football. I know Wilson says he wants to make changes i just hope he has a good clearout so the supporters can watch a team play with spirit and be proud to wear the team shirt.

I can't say I'm surprised at the result, but I am surprised some posters are already on the managers back,or appear to be so.
It will take a few weeks for a new game plan to take affect. Expect new defenders in and an injection of funds from AF for DW.AF is not going to let us fail again as it reflects on him and he is a proud man.
The sale of Cox would be a mistake as he will soon come good as will others with lost confidence. It's just a case of DON'T PANIC give DW time and money to spend.....

Very poor post, yes everyones entitled to their own point of view, but this surely is very premiture. Just home from the match. Once again hopes were raised and was hoping for the "New Manager Bounce" and maybe get a win at home, it's so long ago now I can hardly remember what winning at home is like.
No shots on target, no saves by their keeper, Cox throwing himself on the floor every couple of minutes. I got freezing cold, with nothing to cheer about again to keep me warm.
I think Mr Wilson had better make good use of the time between now and our next game, to sort a few things out. Clearly his influence on todays team would have been minimal as he only had one day with them. I know it was the second match in a couple of days, but it was the same for Brighton.
The captains armband didn't inspire Timlin today either, very poor first half and didn't seem to be able to marshal the troops on the pitch at any point. Any body out there think Peacock would make a better Captain.

Seriously, how can this same 11 play so well against Orient, yet be so shambolic at home to B&HA. I think Mr Wilson has a very big job on his hands here, but good luck to the bloke.

MM has created a BIG mess. Good luck to Danny Wilson, he'll bloody need it.

I couldn't believe how easy it was for Brighton, all they had to do was lump the ball over the top of our defenders, astonishing.

The only positives were; JP McGovern was fantastic, really starting to like the bloke now, the pitch was fantastic, it was asking for nice passing football, shame none of our players can pass it on the ground. And the fans got behind the team for once, there was no booing during the game!

We NEED a leader in defence, Kanyuka was shocking at leading the line. Ifil just gifts possession to the opposition time and time again. How the heck did Kanyuka get MOTM!?!?

Danny Wilson - I wish you good luck.

Just back to London after the match. Won't be making the round trip that often to watch more like today's rubbish. Who really chose the starting line-up? OMG, if it was Wilson, not Byrne.

Midfield clearly is the problem. Timlin must start in central midfield, probably with Easton (not great, but who else is there?). Peacock is not a midfielder and Nalis looked good on the ball but is static, not even slow. Sturrock? Best nothing said. Defence - shocking. There's a lot of work for Wilson to do; but not many players here who are good enough at this level.

The rot will continue unless we get rid of the useless Williams and Granville. I'd include Byrne in that but he's clearly better suited to working with youngsters and has an eye for potential youth, it's no coincidence our youth team has come on leaps and bounds since he joined the club.

Demote Byrne, sack Williams and Granville and bring in some experienced and proven coaches - Wilson alone cannot help us.

I for one are very happy with the appointment of Wilson. Was almost a relief to hear some sensible comments made by a town manager after the game.
I think we are still hung over from the Malpas reign - I do think Wilson will turn it around, and we wont get relegated this season.

But on todays performance - I think Wilson will be looking for a left back, centre back, creative midfielder, and a right midfielder.
How Kanuka got man of the match today totally shocked me. Ifil or Smith would have been my choice.

That was without doubt the worst performance of the season so far & talk of the play offs with this squad is baffling.

Yet again our best centre-half(Morrison
) was left on the bench, as we had to watch 2 players who are not up to playing in this Division.

I would have gave the man of the match to the crowd today, as there wasn't a single player who deserved the award.

The fans have been very loyal this season & have continued to watch the team in good no's, as the 8 & a half thousand would testify today.

We now need our Chairman to show his support to the manager he "Wanted" & let him get some decent players in & also allow him to get rid of the dead wood on the present coaching staff.

Good luck Danny Wilson because if you're not allowed to get at least 6 new player in you might regret taking on this huge job.
