TOWN'S League One rivals Southend United have won the race to sign Bristol City winger Kevin Betsy.
The 30-year-old, a long-time target for County Ground boss Maurice Malpas, opted for a switch to Roots Hall for a nominal fee last night.
"A few sides in League One and League Two showed some interest but for me it was coming to see the manager and hearing his ethos which suited me," Betsy told Southend's official website.
The news could renew Malpas's interest in wing Mark Marshall, who trialled with Town this summer and is also being tracked by Bournemouth.

I think we're re in danger of missing the point here. Whether Betsy is any good or not is a matter of opinion. The worrying factor is that he preferred Southend to Swindon. Surely there has to be something seriously wrong with the way we are selling the club to potential signings?

He has pace which is great at this level. He will not cost the earth and would be great to come off the bench for the last 20 when play is stretched. One more sleep to go. If we don't get Marshall (and let's face he may be good, but not not necessarily ready for regular first team action),i'd be reasonably happy to persist with JP for the time being. Bearing in mind that Roberts is still on the payroll, wouldn't it make sense to stick with what we've got, give JP a chance and give Roberts a chance when he's fit. If JP doesn't cut it in the first couple of games there's always the loan market possibility.

Not a problem. Moving onwards and upwards. He's forgotten about. I will just enjoy dishing him out a few verbal pelters - you can't beat a bit of panto. Remember that skinny bloke that the Town-End wound up last season....he lost it & flew into one of our boys and got booked......christ I was laughing.
I reckon, to fit in with the locals, Betsy's choosing his Ford Capri 2.8i as we speak. Then he'll buy the "KEV & SHAZZA" sticker for his windscreen.
