Blackburn's on his way

CHRIS Blackburn looks set to cut ties with Town after the defender agreed a deal to end his two-year County Ground stay prematurely.

Town feared Blackburn was going to sit out his last year in Wiltshire but a u-turn from the former Morecambe man sees him set to quit the club and pursue his football career elsewhere.

Boss Maurice Malpas told Blackburn earlier this season he had no place in his future plans but, despite a loan spell at Weymouth, it seemed he was content to carry on his peripheral role at the County Ground.

Malpas revealed yesterday though a compromise had been reached by both parties with a couple of clubs, including Aldershot, already chasing his signature.

Malpas said: "The lad wants to play football and I have said he won't get a game at Swindon so this is the right decision for the club and the player.

"We have come to a compromise and we are hoping he will sign the agreement soon, which will make him a free agent and able to go and get regular football.

"It is the best thing for both sides. I put my position forward and he put his and I just wish him all the best for the future."

Blackburn was brought to Swindon by Paul Sturrock last summer but struggled to establish himself.
