Ranger wasting his talent as he misses training again

MANAGER Mark Cooper admitted Nile Ranger is wasting his talent after the striker again failed to turn up for training today.

The former Newcastle frontman led the line for Town at Brentford yesterday, less than 24 hours after writing off his Range Rover on Christmas Day, but did not arrive for training with the rest of the squad this morning.

Cooper has been unable to contact Ranger at all today and admitted he is sad to see his player not making the most of his ability.

“He obviously played at Brentford yesterday but we haven’t seen him today,” Cooper told the local media. “He’s probably had a lie in.

“I’m more frustrated for Nile because he has a tremendous talent and he’s still a very young man, but he’s wasting it. The frustration is with him and for him.

“It’s difficult but he’s only going to have himself to blame because he’s had so many chances. He’s a tremendous centre forward and a great number nine - there’s not many better at this level - but sometimes the group is more important.

“January’s coming, and somewhere along the line we have to think about what we’re going to do.”

Ranger adds so much to our play up front and is the best defender we've got from corners etc. How can someone with so much talent blow it all? Tragic, who is going to risk giving him a contract again if he continues like this?

However he is the only centre forward we have. Without him we are naff up front. There has to be a way to manage him. he has only two weeks till his trial. His head must be totally messed up.

At the moment we need him - so allowances should be made. Maybe he had no car to get in to training!

So we just keep playing him, regardless of how many times he abuses the the club's goodwill? Where exactly would you draw the line?

There's a limit and he's repeatedly gone beyond it. He's a complete idiot. Whatever his talent he's not bigger than our club and we need to move on without him, whatever the outcome of his trial. We've given him chances when others didn't and he's abused our trust. There's no point in continuing to play him and he needs to go as soon as contractually possible.

This is such a waist of talent. What an idiot he is to himself. He could be at least a championship player and with proper application no doubt could play in the Premiership.

However, if he can't apply himself to training at this club, then get rid. Yes, he'll be a loss as when he does play he has a massive impact on the team. The club have given him every chance but each time he spurns it. Enough is enough.

(Without knowing the date of the trial in January) - If Ranger is found not guilty then perhaps the club can take steps to sort him out, (e.g. insist that he move to Swindon & house share with another player or coach who can provide a kick up the proverbial when needed to get him to training on time.)

On the other hand if he gets sent down we need to have a free replacement in mind already. (Perhaps Mr Sherwood's replacement can send us another youngster keen to get match experience.)

It seems to me what we do is tolerate Nile for another three weeks. If he turns up an 'earns' his place in the eyes of Mark Cooper then he plays. If not he doesn't.

Then after his court case all rules change.

If he is found guilty then he is not our problem. We could offer an open ended 'let us know when you get out and we'll see what we can do', or we could tell him he is sacked under the conditions we were told were in his contract when he signed for us.

If he is found not guilty, we can offer him for sale in the January transfer market, tolerate him until the end of the season and then try to off load him or continue to try to make him see which way his bread is buttered.

Whatever...hold tight for another three weeks.

A small minority, including Steve from Brentford and I thought signing Ranger was a disgrace. Also fine.

But then there were a few posters who changed sides in favour of Ranger, once he scored a few goals. All of these should apply for a paragraph in the shortest book in the world- ''The Italian Book of War Heroes''

Joey, I imagine there were very few who changed their minds about Ranger on the basis of his performances in a Town shirt.

I didn't think signing Ranger was a disgrace. I did think it was a big mistake, still think it was a big mistake and I also think he's a very good footballer.

So where are you Mr Power? You signed Ranger and it is up to you to sort this massive mess out!

I thought Ranger was outstanding against Coventry but I was kind of waiting to see the reaction of the other players should he score. As much as I rate him he cannot keep doing this and therefore needs to go. It's the other players who concern me more rather than losing his talent.

It is seriously like he is behaving like a man living it up for one last time! I really hope not but it's not like he has a care and for me that is a worry given the court case!!

I am pretty certain that Ranger has a one year contract with options for another. I also believe, Jed put a load of riders into his contract and I doubt he will get paid if he doesn't turn up, or turns up late. It's not like at school where you can role up late every day and simply get a ticking off. This is the third reported significant absence or bout of lateness and I expect the club will follow due process. I expect him to be removed in January, guilty or not! As for those complete tools on here who slag off commentators for changing their minds about him, well, at least they are neither bigots nor hypocrites bearing in mind they are forming opinions based on changing circumstances and learning more from situations, which to me is very sensible. So Joey Butler, are you a prejudiced bigot?

With only 1 day to rest between Boxing day and today's game at Bradford, I would have thought there would have been little time for training, especially as they will have nigh on a 4 hour travel to face No mention by Cooper that several other players didn't train due to illness. As others mentioned it's just possible the car crash could be a contributing factor.

Having said all that if he did not call in to say where he was and why he wouldn't be in, it's not professional, especially if as someone mentioned he was partying.

One thing for sure Bradford, especially 6' 5" Hansen will be rubbing their hands with his absence as he is the only one that has any presence in defending dead balls in our own area.

I wonder if Nile will look back one day and see what a right plonker he has been.
Aside from this court case he seems determined to ruin his career.
I personally think he doesn't want to play here anyway, we possibly were the only ones willing to take a gamble. Hence this training saga, no concerns for his work colleagues etc., and feels he is too good for this league, which he probably is, but to act the way he has, he'll be lucky to get another team in the FL to take the even bigger risk now.

Dont know about clearly having his mind on the court case,
it seems the only thing on his mind ever is himself.

I used to show long haired German Shepherds, i had a excellent.female that was top class in the shows but whilst trying to get her ready, groomed and all that she would chew and damage my home, bite, bark and make a general nuisance of herself with neighbours and family, the answer seemed to most peope was simple but to me she was a good show dog, i really should of got rid because the rest of my dogs started to behave in the same manner and in the end i had to give up due to all the disruption caused and my name tarnished making it impossible to carry on, i couldnt just get rid of that good dog though could i ? i mean she was quite valuble at the time!
