SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio won't give his squad a break
BE AFRAID, Town players, Paolo Di Canio is planning a second stint of pre-season training - at the end of November.
The Robins will have two weeks without a game between the clash with Notts County on November 24 and the visit of Doncaster on December 8, following their FA Cup first-round exit at the hands of Macclesfield last weekend.
A fortnight’s break should see the majority of Swindon’s injured players return to full fitness, and Di Canio is aiming to use the period to reboot the club’s season.
“There are two weeks when we don’t play - we can recover and work hard and prepare ourselves for December and January. It’s a mini pre-season where we can work four or five days and bring some players in.
“I will work hard because we are close there and maybe we can get a few points in the next few games and recover some injuries.
“We can try ( to be in the top six) but it’s not realistic at the moment.
“This is all the expectation, the plan and the hope that we’re not going to have any more injuries.”
Meanwhile, Di Canio suggested that Andy Williams is still four or five games away from his best form after his return from a calf injury.
He said: “Andy Williams has come back and he does not have an injury any more.
“Against Aston Villa he came back with adrenaline, but in the last two games he has struggled a bit because he will take another four or five games.
“The people speak who don’t know football and it is easy to say he is fit.”
