SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio won't give his squad a break

This Is Swindon Town FC: Swindon Town boss Paolo Di Canio Swindon Town boss Paolo Di Canio

BE AFRAID, Town players, Paolo Di Canio is planning a second stint of pre-season training - at the end of November.

The Robins will have two weeks without a game between the clash with Notts County on November 24 and the visit of Doncaster on December 8, following their FA Cup first-round exit at the hands of Macclesfield last weekend.

A fortnight’s break should see the majority of Swindon’s injured players return to full fitness, and Di Canio is aiming to use the period to reboot the club’s season.

“There are two weeks when we don’t play - we can recover and work hard and prepare ourselves for December and January. It’s a mini pre-season where we can work four or five days and bring some players in.

“I will work hard because we are close there and maybe we can get a few points in the next few games and recover some injuries.

“We can try ( to be in the top six) but it’s not realistic at the moment.

“This is all the expectation, the plan and the hope that we’re not going to have any more injuries.”

Meanwhile, Di Canio suggested that Andy Williams is still four or five games away from his best form after his return from a calf injury.

He said: “Andy Williams has come back and he does not have an injury any more.

“Against Aston Villa he came back with adrenaline, but in the last two games he has struggled a bit because he will take another four or five games.

“The people speak who don’t know football and it is easy to say he is fit.”

I actually think the break is a good idea and is perfectly timed before the key Christmas run-in. It will enable PDC to help galvanize and re-focus the team, allow any newbies to settle in and re-create a strong team spirit. Hopefully, the result will be a series of good wins over the festive period leaving us in a prime position for an auto-promo place.

You have to play to get match fit grim! Yes you do seem to have right off Paolo and it hasn't gone unnoticed.

Shame we can't play seven days a week, the silly comments really seem to come out in between matches.

Read some total drivel today both in support and in criticism of PDC, and I'll say it again - don't care if your opinion differs to mine, but at least be able to support your opinions with something, then I can respect it - some on here seem to shout all the time about being so entitled to their opinions, yet back them with stuff they've literally just made up, thought they heard from someone down the pub last week, or something misremembered/misund
erstood from an article in the adver some time ago. Get a grip people! If you want to talk total rubbish get on the rumours site. Either that or create your own "we love/**** off (delete as appropriate) DiCanio" webpage and have done with it.
