FINAL SCORE: Hampton & Richmond 1 Swindon Town 2
SIMON Cox made it six goals in five pre-season games as Town won 2-1 at Conference South outfit Hampton & Richmond.
The in-form striker nodded home on 20 minutes from triallist Mark Marshall's cross.
The Eastleigh winger has done his County Ground cause no harm on the right flank, with a mazy run and cross - which Cox then squandered - another highlight.
Hampton should have taken an early lead but Ian Hodges prodded over from inches out.
Cox - the only Town player to net during pre-season - doubled his tally on 67 minutes, tapping in after the home keeper fumbled Marshall's 25-yard drive.
Elliott Frost pulled a goal back with four minutes remaining but Town held on to seal their first win of the summer.

It sounds as if Billy Paynter is still firing blanks. If he can't find the target tonight, when can he find it?

Apart from Coxy nobody else in the team is scoring goals... which is slightly worrying! What if Coxy gets injured, we'll be well n truly in the brown stuff. As for 'sicknote' Corr, he never seems to get a mention these days.

And to think that Malpas truly believes his squad has all th 'fire power' it needs. What a joke? Paynter couldn't score in a brothel, Sturrock's scoring 'prowess' isn't much better and Corr only has to cross the white line onto the pitch and he picks up an injury. Why can't Malpas see it? Everyone else can.

No one can complain about Marshalls performance against Pompey. Making a step-up from Eastleigh to a League one club and coming in a friendly against a Premiership side can be very daunting, and I think he done well.
As for firepower, Peacocks still to come back from injury and he done well up front towards the end of the season. Easton had a good run of goals as well. I think were fine for firepower at the moment, but we could maybe do with strengthening it in January

January will be too late to rescue the season. We need to be asking why it is that Uncle Fester is incapable of attracting anybody to come and play for us.

Peacock found his striking ability again as soon as Malpas moved up front, and Easton got forward a nice amount of times. Peacock and Cox will be a good partnership next season.
As for attracting players to the club, stop blaming Malpas. Its not all down to him, its also wages, transfer fees, location, and whether or not the family are willing to move to this sort of area.

YOU ARE WRONG! Billy Paynter works his **** off every match by giving 150% every match. Yes I agree he does need to sharpen up his finishing but that comes with match practise. Paynter is one of Swindon's best players in the squad because he adds so much to the team such as pressence, power, more GOALS and more chances created. I am sick of people writting off Billy Paynter because he is awsome, not as good as Cox i'l admit that but he is better than Barry Corr .
cant say i can remember paynter giving 150% anywhen! cox, peacock & timlin work there arse off every game and paynter does not seem to work half as hard!! to be honest though i no he had got alot to offer and i there is one thing he needs to do is shoot more from range with his 'apparent' good shot.

Painter is a striker, he's supposed to score goals and he doesn't really look like doing that. We're not going anywhere this season because you need 2 strikers both scoring 18+ for the year before the rest of your team chip in. Coxy is capable of being one of Swindon's highest scorers of all time I think but not unless we get someone else who is a threat along side him. With only cox to concentrate on he will be defended off the park. Sturrock and one other should have gone over the summer with a new striker being brought in. I Love peacock but he won't score more than 10 next year nor will painter or Sturrock. Corr wll if he's fit but that's a big big doubt. Lsoe Cox and we're f--ked

Having just got back from the game I thought Paynter played well, people moan about Rooney not scoring enough goals but his work rate creates chances and makes defenders struggle. I think Paynter does a similar job alongside Cox. Thats probably the first time he's been compared to Rooney!
Moaning that we only have one prolific and in form striker is a bit greedy, we haven't had any since Fallon left so one is a start!
Marshall looked good as well, but not sure about the quality of their left back!

I honestly thought he played OK, his strength was a handful for their centre backs which did us and Cox in particular no harm. There were a few instances I remember Paynter holding the ball up, and laying it off for Cox or one of the wingers. Something which Cox, Sturrock, Roberts, Peacock or Corr I don't think would have the strength to do. It is unfair to expect a similar end results from BP and Cox who is just class and in great form. Personally I think Paynter is good enough to play the role of a League One support striker.
The late goal was probably flattering to them and when you take into context that it was a mid week away game, and followed games against two champions league teams and a premiership team the players were never going to be that up for it. The players put in a professional performance and got the job done.

Yes is worrying where other goals will come from???
As to BP, I do hope he finds form and his time will come, how many have we let go and they go on to score mega goals"freddy eastwood" was just one along with so many others.
MM knows what is needed and with budgets etc and the "RIGHT PLAYERS" available he has got a job on.
I look at our division and see quite a bit of activity, yet I get the feeling MM knows what he is doing(hope he does)
I think this young Player Marshall sounds a good find and I wish him well on step up to professional status(if successful with trial)
So we still need to be patient and let MM do what he is being paid for[bold]bold[/bold]

I really don't care if Paynter plays well or not, sticking the ball away is what he is here for. I don't care if he has a stinker, as long as he can even toe poke one away would make me happy, but he can't do it consistantly. Don't get me wrong, I like his work rate and willingness for the cause, but he's here to score goals.

The fact that Cox is only player to score is a concern i'm sure Peacs will get a few Blair will prob pick up around about 7-8 if lucky and if Corr can get fit and stay fit and get games under his belt then will score a few but Paynter is a concern we know what he can do he just needs to put more of an effort in. Joyce may get a few too but i think we could do with another forward and competition for McNamee as who will play on left if he gets a long term injury. Marshall could be useful if he gets given a chance if he gets what most of the players we get from non-league get he won't get a look in
