Redknapp tips McNamee for a bright future
HARRY Redknapp has tipped Anthony McNamee to terrorise League One defences - claiming many more repeats of last night's dazzling display will soon see him leaving Wiltshire for bigger things.
The Portsmouth boss watched the diminutive left winger continuously trouble his Premiership side in Town's 3-1 defeat last night before challenging him to realise his true potential.
Simon Cox gave the hosts an early lead from the penalty spot before goals from Hermann Hreidarsson, Jermaine Defoe and Danijel Subotic ended Town's brave efforts.
Town boss Maurice Malpas revealed afterwards former Blackpool left back John Hills will be training with his squad from Monday, while also admitting to be well advanced in talks with an unnamed right midfielder.
McNamee's second-half display would have had some of Town's League One rivals quaking in their boots ahead of the new season, as he continually cut his way through Pompey's international defence.
Redknapp said: "I have known McNamee since he was a young boy at Watford and obviously he has never realised his potential he showed when he was young.
"So it is up to him to show it now. There must be some reason why he did not make it at Watford but if he can put it all together and Maurice can get the best out of him then he could be some player.
"He can certainly be a danger in this league but pre-season is very different. The pitches are good, and there was the adrenaline of playing a Premier League team.
"If he can produce that every week he won't be here long but can he do it regular?
"That is his problem."
A satisfied Malpas immediately set his sights post-match on securing the "two or three" players he believes are still vital ingredients.
He said: "John Hills is coming in on Monday. He has had an operation but needs to get some fitness. He thinks he is fit enough but we will judge him in the games.
"He will bring experience, competition for Jamie and gives us options. If we lose Jamie right now it could be a panic.
"I am speaking to an out of contract player now and hopefully we will get something done. If we can get that I will look for a centre midfielder. I think it is down to his wife now.''

"Its down to his wife now"
Bloody hell, wont be getting him either then, what is it with these wags? could the decision all rest on the amount of shops that are available in the town?

What a difference a few months make. Everyone is excited over one of the best prospects outside of the Premier. I think a lot of us had forgotten how enjoyable it is to watch a class player at the County Ground.
With a player like McNamee in the team a few others might be inspired, especially Marshall, who showed he is willing to have a go and keep running.

well done the lads last night, few plyers look very good ahead of the new season with great potential.
i do have a concern if cox is injuried, as to now in 4 games he is the only one to of scored.
Yeah fair enough, if u look at the teams we played so far they all top draw and u expect a soild defence, and for a team like us u really dont expect a team from our league to be puttin these teams under that much pressure, like with have done, but cox needs help in puttin the goals away. THe whole squad need to be lookin at chippin in over the season. or we could have just 20 plus goals scored...lol..we not go anywhere if there only one man puttin the ball in the net. COME ON THE TOWN..

we still nead a STRIKER. GET RID OF BP AND BS AND CORR AS HE IS NEVER FIT (PLEASE BARRY GET FIT). ITS NO POINT IN LOOKING GOOD OR PLAYING WELL IN THE GAMES. GOALS IS THE ONLY THING THAT GETS USE 3pts

I would say that it is some tabloid s**t stirring. Macca is worth more than 200k and he is better than Murray, it doesn't make any sense. Instead of being after a right winger we would now need a left winger, there doesn't seem any point!

the lads played really well last night, its looking very good for this season.
Couple of pointers....
if we could remove the need to 'hoof' the ball everytime we're put under pressure we'd probably go up. Possession is key.
Macca was cracking, but i hope Maurice has more attacking options than just giving it to Macca. One quick and strong defender can take Macca out of a game for 90 minutes.
Im fully behind the Swindon outfit, but i dont rate Paynter. I just hope Corr gets fit and relegates him to the bench. I never seem to see what 'attacking' option Paynter offers, i know he works hard, but doing what? he should be a goal machine, laying off and linking up with Cox, smashing them off the cross bar, getting his head to Maccas crosses, but he always seems to fail at the critical moment, mis-firing, mis-hitting, or just missing.

I say old beans, we could do with this Hills fellow being a jolly good player, also any ideas on this mystery midfield chap that Maurice is conversing with?

I know I will get a load of stick but considering the size of the crowd on Friday
I thought the organisation was cr**.The ticket windows were so slow i had to waite for 30 minutes, and the catering was terrible in the Arkell at half-time, we were still being served when the second half started.I also expected the ticket office to remain open after the game for new season tickets and that was closed.Just feel that Mr Watkins needs to stop the "SPIN"AND GET SOME ORGANISATION AND ACTION GOING,tHE SALES OF PROGS AND RUNNING OUT OF 442 IS ANOTHER example.
Bit disappointed as I took two potential new season ticket holders and they enjoyed the game but hopefully all is not lost as they are comming again to watch Argyle!

The ST offer will be finished by the time the Argyle game happens. The Cardiff game will be the last chance
