Fans give ticket scheme seal of approval

TOWN fans have hailed the club's radical season-ticket pricing as "simply sensational" - urging all supporters to give their backing to a brand new dawn.

If 6,000 season tickets are sold by August 1, fans can watch football at the County Ground for less than a tenner with family discounts also hoped to boost dwindling attendance.

Town director Jeremy Wray described their ticketing initiative as a "risk" admitting if supporters do not get behind them their long-term ambitions will have to be changed accordingly.

Swindon Town Supporters Club membership secretary Mike Dew though is confident the town will get behind the cause.

He said: "It is simply sensational. The Supporters Club is really pleased, it is fantastic news. We are looking to pull people in, the same as the directors, and to go back to 1993 prices is unbelievable.

"What pleases us most is the family ticket because it sees the next generation coming to games.

"You want them there in 10 years time not just next season.

"Swindon is such a growing town. I am at fault because I wear an Arsenal shirt at times but too many people walk round in other shirts.

"These people should be supporting their club."

While the aim of almost doubling this year's season-ticket tally may seem a little ambitious, along with their bid to increase the average gate by more than 2,000, Dew insists history shows it is achievable.

"The support has been there," he said. "It has been proved when you get Swansea or Leeds or Forest, people will come. They want to see football being played.

"I just think we have to get away from that hard core 3-4,000. I don't miss many away games either but I would like to see a real good backing. Eight to nine thousand regular and the players will respond.

"When I talk to the players they say fans cheering them on makes a huge difference. It would be great to really bring the atmosphere back to the County Ground."

Yes, its great news that the club has really thought about attracting fans back to the County Ground. Ive already put the pricing details up on a few notice boards at work. The more fans the better I say!The board need to be congratulated once again on their efforts. Well done Mr Fitton and Co. Now no one should have anymore excuses for not wanting to watch Swindon Town FC. U reds!!

Great to see the new regime having the vision and business acumen to design this new season ticket deal. A stark contrast to the previous board lurching from one crisis to the next. Whether the 6,000 target is achieved is to some degree not important. In my opinion, the fact that the new board have shown imagination in their planning for the future is encouraging enough.

This is a way of rewarding fans who are prepared to make a commitent with their support which has to be good, but come on, don't lose sight of what is really important - a successful manager and team !!!!!!
I say again - this smacks of gimmickery to divert attention from what happened on the field.
AF, thanks for the offer - you have done a good job of shifting the focus away the performances and the appointments since you took over. A lot of us still want you and the board to concentrate on performance on and around the pitch - get that right and fans will flood back in greater numbers.
And we haven't a cat's hells chance of selling 6000 season tickets and you know it.

You should support the club whatever!! If they play good or bad. Ive followed Swindon over 25years and ive seen some right old crap football. If you can call it that. Ie the worst being under Jimmy Quinn as manager. No disrespect to Jimmy Quinn in his day he was a class striker!! But i still go back week in week out. Now the board are repaying some of that loyality! Fair play to them. It goes down to the same old thing. Swindon are never going to attract big named players. Firstly we havent got the finances, and then we havent got the support nor the player wouldnt even want to come to Swindon anyway. I say if you are a real Swindon Town supporter you would try and get a ticket whatever and whoever is playing for the club. I dont think we could get Ronaldo anyway!! ha ha ha

Wantage1. I am glad to see that your glass is still only a quarter full. No wonder STFC gets so much negative press with pessimists like you as supporters. it is great that we now people with initiative and foresight running the club and that things are generally moving forward not only on the pitch (and they are), but more so behind the scenes, really positive moves. Well done the board

The Membership Secretary of the Supporters Club wears an ARSENAL shirt? I despair.

Yes looking forward to exciting time ahead. Without all those negative fans always looking for something to moan at. Unless we will the league, FA Cup, League Cup some people will never be happy!! Whoever is in charge they still moan ie McMahon, Andy King etc. We are living in 2008 not the past. Also theres no good way a player can leave any club. ie Look at Flamini of Arsenal. Why doesnt he sign his contract. You could say hes doing the same thing as Commingues, but hes a class player and has still had a good season. Look at Steve Sidwell of Reading he was their best player but then he joined Chelsea. What was that for to get paid less money than what he was on at Reading. Shall i continue.....Wes Brown of Man Utd, he was stalling for a new contract this season. And anyone would think they would sign for one of the best sides in the country straight away. And hes been there all his life. Again Loyality goes out the window and the way these players do things they cant keep it all out of the press. If they did then people would also complain about not being imformed of what is happening at the club. No win situation. If you accept these things you will be alot more happier!! A win today!! YOU REDS!!

i disagree with you wantage 1 i think we can sell more tickets of 6000 or more if the manager and team play together as next season will show i believe swindon will be a force to reckon with and having some good names at swindon, we have had in the past, and if malpass has a good season some players will definatly come to the cg, i have faith that next season we will be one of the top teams

I hope anybody with any sense realises that some of the comments above aren't in any way representative of the average fans views. The majority of fans are really positive about the Season ticket offer, & are prepared to give MM a chance. The Statistics show that his record since taking over is as good as the record before he took over. If you had told any knowledgeable right minded STFC fan in November that we would end up where we are now, they would have taken it in a nano-second.

Well said Phil_S!!
I get thoroughly fed up with the swing from positive to negative and back again. The average Swindon fan is elated that we still have a club, a great board and the manager... let him get a squad together for himself and pre-season train them....THEN and only then judge the man!! Get behind the team for a new season and stop driving players away!!
I've always said I can't afford to go too often given a family to support but this is also due to all the other costs around the match day...especially with bloomin petrol prices. This scheme will get my buy in and when my boys are old enough they'll be true 'Swindon Steamers' fans & attending!!
No Gooner shirts in this household - I still remember the League Cup Q-F too well (& wish I could remember the 69 Final as well)!!

Does anyone know what the disabled admission is next season or even the O A P S admission it is around 10 pound at most grounds
Posted by: stickybeak, . on 1:54pm Sat 3 May 08
It's a fantastic deal in the main stands. Even if we don't make 6000 (come on, lets do it).

The only slightly contentious issue is flat pricing of the main stands and town end means a townender will be migrating to a seat near you soon; do not feed, caution - may bite.

Oh, and Mr Dew, an Arsenal shirt. A friggin Arsenal shirt. Go and sit on the naughty step and think about what you have done.

Please excuse the faux pas -- I hereby certify and promise I will not wear any shirt other than a Swindon Town Shirt when I am working on Supporters Club business ( Not even my Van Heusen non-iron )and I will never be seen in Swindon with a Gooners top

OAP Concession is £169 based on 6k fans or £189 if we don't acheive 6k . Disabled is the same as OAP.

Against my better judgement I've just renewed mine.
