Comminges still undecided over future
MIGUEL Comminges has refused to rule out remaining at the County Ground next season - although a move to the Championship remains the likely option.
The Guadeloupe international joins a list of Swindon greats spanning back 45 years, after being unveiled the Swindon Advertiser's Town player of the season, but speculation on his future threatens to sour his one-year stay in Wiltshire.
The Frenchman admits a move to the Championship is his aim this summer, solely due to footballing reasons, but denied Town's claims he was on the brink of signing for the Bluebirds.
The Swindon Advertiser understands Cardiff are one of several Championship clubs interested, with a move to Ninian Park a likely option, but Comminges would have no complaints if he stayed at Town.
Comminges' future has been shrouded in mystery since the club revealed on Wednesday morning he had turned down a new contract offer at the County Ground to sign for Championship Cardiff.
The Welshmen have since denied a deal was anywhere near done with Comminges himself insisting his Town career was not quite over yet.
He said: "It is a footballing decision for me and is not easy. I am just trying to do the best thing for my career.
"I did really well here and if I stay here it would not matter because I like the club. I hope I make the right decision. Every footballer wants to play as high as they can and I have the same ambition.
"I don't know whether I will make the right decision and only the future can say what is going to happen.
"Nothing is definite in football. I am thinking over my options and while it is likely I will move into the Championship who knows. I like Swindon and maybe I will stay."
While declining to comment too much on the events of the last 48 hours, Comminges was surprised at claims he was about to sign for Cardiff - insisting that was not the case.
It is unknown whether Comminges will feature in today's final game of the season at home to Millwall with his future still up in the air.
Cardiff boss Dave Jones has admitted his side are monitoring Comminges but confirmed that was as far as any interest had so far gone.

under the circumstances he should not have received the player of the year award-it should have gone to the runner-up!!!!

Why should it have gone to the runner up? Whether he leaves or not doesn't change the fact that he's performed well for us this year and deserves credit. Hes new to the English game and at 26 sounds like he wants to get his career moving here quickly whether it be the right decision to leave or not. I for one wish him well. Lets not run the lad down for being ambitious. I'm sure in our jobs if we got offered something better we wouldn't say no.

At the end of the day, i understand where Comminges is coming from. If I was offered another job with a few more grand on my salary at a higher level, doing the same thing, you would be silly not to take it. I think anyone would.People go on about loyalty. There is no loyalty in football. If people dont realise that now they obviously dont understand the game. Its not right but its life!!

Its like Don Rogers said, and i mentioned it to someone at work yesterday. All our previous 9 out of 15 winners have left the club straight after winning the Player of the Year Award. Does that not say anything about Loyality!! There isnt any??? Exactly. I understand if people want to improve thats life.

Hes a really nice bloke, he has been player of the match on many occasions, seemed to really enjoy himself here, now player of the year. Im surprised he feels the need to go to the championship now !! Why not give us another season to see if we are really going places! Big fish little pond spring to mind. Financial reward should not be the only motivator!!!

Very often players doing very well at a club move on because they think that there form will automaticaly continue to be good at another club offering more money. This is often NOT the case, and although I agree there is no loyalty in football, players should remember when they get tempted ..what goes around..comes around!

It was the Kiss of death voting him player of the year.
But as Glasred says they often go downhill when they do leave.
To name a few who have left for "bigger clubs/ to further their career, O'Hanlon, Rhys Evans, Sam Parkin. The only one who I can thnk of who has bucked the trend is possibly Brian Howard.

Many players have left for pastures new with fans support still firmly behind them for example Sam Parkin, but he did not do what Miguel has done. Miguel has basically said well i will stay if nothing better comes along and that is something you don't say to your employers whatever job you do! If you are going to move higher up then fine, further your career no one will critisize you for that, but if you [italic]tell us[/italic] that we are not good enough for you, then 'bye bye' you are not wanted or needed!

Surely we're taking a look at all the players in League Two who've just won player of the year at their club? I would be.

As much as I aggree with loyalty, LD86 is right in that he's 26 and want to further his carrer. He should however think to extend his stay for 1 more year and help us push for promotion? Then if we are not successful why not have a clause in his contract to be release if we dont make the championship? Miguel deserves player of the year as he has worked hard which has got him this attention. Looking forward to todays game and exciting times ahead for next season!

If I get a better deal I'm off (understandable I guess), but I haven't been offered one for definite so I'd better appease Swindon just in case.

I cant believe what a load of t"@ts some fans can be. Comminges was a star for us this season and by far deserves the award. What he does with his career has nothing to do with the award. Some of you just sound like kids who are sulking just because you lost a game of musical chairs at your own birthday party. Why should he curtail his career by staying with Town if he can better himself by moving on. Like has been mentioned before on here those moaning about it would do just the same in his situation, and don't say you wouldn't cos you you would. So grow up, thank the guy for what he did for us and wish him good luck in his future as I do. Have some dignity so when he does well for someone else, you can say with pride STFC started him off in his English career.

When reading over some of the comments here I get a feeling that large portion of football fans are stupid and very narrow-minded fools. Who wouldn´t like to further their careers ? It always leaves some people disappointed but there is no need to make him a scapegoat because of his ambitions. Good luck, Comminges, whether you stay or go.
