Sturrock slams Brighton for treatment of Town fans
 |
| Town's Blair Sturrock |
BLAIR Sturrock slammed Brighton's treatment of Town's travelling support as "an embarrassment", but paid tribute to the 544 fans who braved appalling conditions during Saturday's defeat.
Stuck away at least 30 yards behind the goal in the West Stand, the red-and-white clad fans did as much as they could to rally Maurice Malpas' side, while enduring sunshine, rain, snow and strong winds during the 90 minutes.
Such was their position, most of the Town supporters would have struggled to identify Craig Easton as their goalscorer at the far end, and Sturrock was full of sympathy and praise for the followers from Wiltshire.
"I couldn't believe how far back the stand is - I don't think they could even see the game.
"It's an embarrassment that they put them way back there, and they might as well not bother putting them in there.
"For them to turn up today and support us like they did was good for the club and good for them.
"They were great in pushing us on and it was just disappointing that we couldn't give them more to cheer about.
"We really appreciate them. With the conditions and everything and the stand like it is, they could barely see the game. I just really hope we can do something more for them on Monday."
With Southend the visitors at the County Ground this afternoon, Sturrock knows that Town must impose themselves for longer spells if they are to have any chance of picking up three points.
"We started well in the first 20 minutes and had the chances, but they came back into it and it was set pieces again which we couldn't deal with.
"We've got to start winning again and it's important that we're at home on Monday because we had a good performance at home against Carlisle last time.
"We'll look to try and play like we did in the first 20 minutes today and just keep it going for longer."

i was quite pleased that i couldn t see much of the game . yet another dis jointed , half hearted attempt - what system were we playing and did the players actually know what they were supposed to be doing ? its a bloody shambles - who is coaching the defence about corners and free kicks ? its no good practicing against our own strikers in training as they never score from corners ! !

Thanks for that, Blair. But you forgot to mention that the signage to the ground was virtually non-existent, the no parking policy within a mile of the ground sucks and the fastfood in the away end was pricey, as was the ticket. Pretty miserable all round, really. However, the female steward wished a safe journey home as we left- a nice touch, though I thought.

what appalling journalism
The guy merely stated it is a bad ground for away fans to watch a match. Why then title the piece as you have?
Let me tell you its pretty poor for home fans too.
I suggest that you get out a little more from your six fingered inbred newspaper office and do some proper research regarding the history to our plight.
Up the Albion!

No; I don't expect you to care and nor will I when you go into receivership next
season after suffering huge financial losses and a failing team/manager/'fans' for the umteenth time.
Still, there's always Oxford to transfer to i guess.
