FROM THE DUGOUT: Malpas on Seagulls defeat
Maurice Malpas
Maurice Malpas

I THOUGHT it was an even game but it became a game of set pieces. We gave free-kicks away that we're struggling to defend, and obviously they scored two goals from it.

All the goals we seem to lose at the moment are from set pieces. It's something we've got to put right.

We've just got to keep on working at it. It's that simple - we've got to keep working and working and working and working until we stop giving silly free-kicks away and silly goals from free-kicks.

It's not like I can just flick a switch and everything will be okay, because I believe it was happening long before I came here.

It's something we've got to work on and improve, and for us to start winning games and become a better team, we need to defend better and put the ball in the back of the net at the other end.

I thought box-to-box we were fine but we are letting ourselves down at either end of the pitch.

I feel as if every week teams are playing us now for set pieces and at the moment they are winning.

Both teams didn't really look like scoring in the second half. You would win the ball, a couple of passes and then it's either a poor ball in the box or a ball given away when you get into a good position.

You can put it down to the conditions a little bit, but the final ball into the box has got to improve if we're going to start scoring goals.

I thought for 20-25 minutes we dominated. They changed their system and they started to dominate a little bit.

One thing that annoyed me was that it was a multi-ball game, and then suddenly when they went 2-1 up there was only one ball in play.

The ball went into the stand once and we had to wait for it to come back. That was a bit underhand and a bit naughty, and it's something I will be complaining about.

There were a couple of tackles which they reacted quite badly to I thought, but that's part and parcel of the game.

You try to wind each other up and the players up but I'm very disappointed about the multi-ball thing.

There's not much time before the Southend game so we'll just get them going again and it's important that we take our box-to-box form into the game and tidy up at both ends of the pitch - start scoring more goals and stop conceding easy free-kicks.

As statements of the blindingly obvious, this ranks with the best I have ever seen. Well done MM ! By the way, there was one soundbite you forgot to include. It's the one that goes "if we can score more than the opposition, then we'll win". Muppet !

A new song...Malpas is a muppett..Malpas is a muppett..lala lala,,lala lala !!!

I certainly hope that that song doesn't echo round the the CG this afternoon. I can't imagine anything more counter productive and won't encourage the players.

we are jekyll and hyde at the moment , outplayed carlisle and were unlucky not to win ,then yet another disappointing away performance at brighton . what a shocking view for away fans at brighton , and it was the dearest to get in this season

Malpas has been here for a few months now and all i see him doing is moaning about his team week in week out,you didnt see that with Kevin Keegan at newcastle who have a terrible team, but each week keegan praised them, not like malpas no he wishes he has the opposing teams strikers, great for team morale you PLONKER!!!
this xmas we will be nowhere near the top of the table

my prediction for today/night is 0-0 unless southend fancy scoring an own goal to give us a head start

I'm sorry Maurice, but if you thought the game was "even" then you were either watching a different game to me, deluded or clueless. At best it could be described as a game of 1 and 5 sixes. We played really well in the first 10/15 mins then as soon as they scored just capitualted into school boy nonsence. The team has the ability to play so much better so why aren't you not getting the best out of them?... I want to give MM a chance MM but I'm starting to get really worried about this chap, I feel we have another Andy King at the helm.

no andy king had a better idea! and lets face it he had the last boardroom too!

At least King was a good scout and had some fire in his belly,Malpas is just clueless Uncle Fester.

Please no; I know its not good at the moment but a favourable comparison fr King s bang out of order. Remember, he was the bloke who said he let his mum pick the team!!!

Give MM a chance but I agree he should be bigging up the players not criticising them in public. It's baic management mate, whatever your job

Ok,point taken..king was a prat. However I cannot see Malpas making the grade no matter how much time he is given.

I agree with everything that is being said about the muppet. As per his own words " they changed their system and they started to dominate a little"!! Any half decent manager would have several plans up their sleeve that would counter act any possible outcome or change but he has not got a clue!!! I was there in one of the worse grounds in the league and we still listen to pony from muppet. Let's be honest here... I do not respect this person for any achievement (there is not any in his managerial career), I fell that 80% of the fans do not respect him and I am certain his collegees and our players do not either. He has the worse record of the 3 managers we have had this season and still continues to come out with blaming players, fans, conditions etc except himself. MM don't carry on dragging our club downwards and depart.
