Wes: I have a point to prove
6:00am Wednesday 8th August 2012 in nPower League Two By Andy Warren
MISSING ME?: Wes Foderingham
WES Foderingham is desperate to show former club Crystal Palace what they have been missing when the they visit the County Ground this evening.
The goalkeeper moved to Swindon last season on loan from the Selhurst Park club before making the switch permanent in January, and performed immaculately during Town’s surge to the League Two title last season.
The youngster is looking forward to taking on his former club so soon after leaving, but still believes he could have eventually broken through into the first team if he had stayed.
“When you leave a club there is always a point to prove, and I think I could have broken through there, but Julien Speroni was in front of me and I think he is probably the best keeper in the Championship,” he said.
“There was also Lewis Price too who is a Welsh international, and I just want to show everyone I could have done a job for Palace.
“I think Julien had the number one locked down for a couple of years still, but my age coincided well with his and I could have been in line to take over after he finished.
“But I wanted to play football now, and I thought I was good enough to play in the league which is why I came here.”
Foderingham has been looking forward to the match ever since it was announced at the end of last season, and is looking forward to catching up with some old friends.
“Obviously I came here last season from Crystal Palace, so they are my former club and I would like to put in a good display against them.
“Towards the end of last season Nick Watkins told me we were going to play them, and ever since then I have been looking forward to it.
“The backroom staff hasn’t changed at all since I left and the playing staff has only changed a little bit, so it will be good to see everyone again.
“It will be good to see Pricey (Lewis Price) and there are a few other of the younger boys I would like to see again, and it will be good to see the goalkeeping coach Lee Turner too.”
