Lanzano contract terminated

Lanzano contract terminated Lanzano contract terminated

GOALKEEPER Mattia Lanzano has had his contract with Swindon Town terminated by mutual consent.

The Italian joined Town last summer and made seven appearances for the club at the start of last season, before dropping out of favour.

Lanzano almost left the club earlier in the year before deciding to stay, and was also transfer listed at the start of this week.

I did wonder why he was transfer listed rather than having his contract terminated - couldn't see anyone coming in with an offer. Plus, he'll probably want to head back to Italy.

I think the biggest loser out of this is Jakub Jesionkowski who was got rid of when Paolo came in. It seemed like Lanzano was brought in as a "hot young prospect" much like Jakub, hence Jesionkowski had to leave to make way for him.

Difference is, Jesionkowski was supposed to be quite good from what I heard.

Ah well, that's the life of a footballer.

Just hope we get a capable back up keeper in with Scott, Jesionkowski, Lanzano, and Smith all having flown the nest.

Neither are as good as Sir Wes - so doesn't matter
.
Bedwell is our back-up and did that role on a number of occassions last year
.
Then there is always thwe loan market - where we got Sir Wes from

Has Luke McCormick been training with Town since Wednesday, and is he included on the trip to Lake Garda ?

Expect a keeper signing in the next couple of weeks then.

He's not allowed to go to Italy even if STFC wanted to take him

Lanzano gave up everything to come here. Feel for the chap, he was obviously not what was required. He said at Christmas he was looking for out, so I'm surprised this didn't come earlier. Wish him the very best back home and hope he is able to re integrate ok. Thanks buddy, you did you best, wish you well, get another club soon and back in the groove A S AP.

Well, that's a really revealing post Wiz.

I was was just about to say 'good riddance' on the basis of Lanzano being a player who had stayed well past his sell by date and milking the Town's coffers while being not up to the job.

Possibly the real story is that he was seduced by the prospect of following in the wake of Paulo's glory and took a risk too far.

If that's the case, I also wish the young man all the best and hope he learns and can find some benefit from the experience he has had.

I also hope that some of those who post on here (like me) can reflect a bit on the facts and players feelings before sounding off.

Had a great game away at Crawley in a very memorable 3-0 win for us thier but sadly nothing else. Not suprised at all at this news.

Not sure if thiers any truth in Paolo's old mate David James coming in as number 2 goaly for us?

I'd prefer Phil Smith any day to James, at least he was predictable, well.......... most of the time.

mancrobin,

Lanzano was being billed as the young upcoming keeper with a fair bit of form and promise for the future, but obviously at a lower level. PdC under estimated the standard of League Two. It wasn't just Lanzano, it was others as well like Comazzi and Atiku, or even Esajas. I have sat back and thought about this more so now they are all but gone. PDC obviously sold them a story and a belief which they all bought into, and Wray gave them a promising package as well. So you can't always just blame the player. Still Lanzano is young enough to resurrect his career which I hope he does, and as with all our leavers, he takes a lot with him in training technique etc , which if they stick to it will benefit them for the rest of their careers, so the time here hasn't been totally wasted.

It's not just PdC who missed judged it but the players themselves - Lanzano tweeted at how shocked he was at the standard of our 4th tier - showing he thought he could make that step up
.
On top of ability there was also the cultural aspect - where many didn't settle in a new country - PdC or the Player would not know that until it actually happened
.
That can happen in any profession where people move abroad only to come back a few months later
.
Some people don't even settle within their own country - Billy Kee left Torquay as he was home sick and went to Burton to be closer to his Leicestershire home
.
Williams wanted to stay in and around the South West etc etc
.
The main thing is the club has learnt and foreign talent is going to be rare going forward - and not being in L2 is certainly helping - there is no way any of our new boys would have signed if we were in L2!
