BREAKING NEWS: Blackburn joins Shots
FORMER Town defender Chris Blackburn has signed a two-year deal with Football League new boys Aldershot Town.
Centre-half Blackburn, whose exit from the County Ground was confirmed by Maurice Malpas earlier this week, has joined the Shots, who won the Blue Square Premier Division title.
Boss Gary Waddock, said of the 25-year-old: "He's a player I've had my eye on for a while.
"I watched him a fair bit at Morecambe the season before last, including when they won the play-off final.
"He then got his move to Swindon, so he's experienced but young too."
"Chris is a good footballer and will add healthy competition.
"He's a good passer of the ball but strong and aggressive as well. And he can lead too. He's not a ranter and a raver but he's a good organiser.
"He's simply a good addition to the squad."

Don't be silly tractorboy, it can't have been on Cefax yesterday, because the adver headline says that it's 'breaking news'. Anyway, good luck Chris, hope it's a good move for you.

Becky69 (loving that name by the way, but maybe you're referring to our League Cup triumph.....I'll get my coat) - I think you might be missing the irony in M Mack's post.

Sorry Becky, yes I was using an extra large dose of sarcasm. Isn't Maurice just the greatest thing to happen to Swindon in.....oh! sorry there I go again. Putting the sarcasm to one side for a moment, Mr Malpas will be getting my full support for the coming season and I wish him all the best.....no, really.

I was stood next to a guy with an Oldham shirt on and around the ground there were various shirts being worn to show support for their plight. Charlie Henry was playing for them that evening. Unfortunately they went bust the following week. I think we all feel for teams who are facing oblivion, apart from Oxford maybe. I went three seasons ago to watch my other team Carlisle and no, the ground has not changed at all, apart from the victorian turnstiles that have been replaced by characterless, ugly modern ones. Just shows that a club can come back if the desire is there.

Has Maurice made a big mistake letting him go?

Yes I've seen bits & pieces recently and it looks exactly the same, including just a flat pavement behind the goal at the other end!

Rumour has it that Chris Blackburn was clean shaven when he last played for town.If he would have stayed any longer ZZ TOP would have been on the phone to him.But in all seriousness to the bloke i wish him all the best.

A mistake by MM ? I dont think so.

I sea we have sold 647 season tickets. if people were that keen you would have thought they might have sold at least 1500. might be that people dont wont 2 go because of a so called manager we have,MAYBE 1 day fitton will take his head out of his ARSEHOLE. UNTIL THEN THE FANS WILL DO THE TALKING

Stfc Romain..Its only current season ticket holders renewing this week,so lets see what occurs when they go on open sale next week.Rather than moan about Malpas (who is staying whatever we think)lets support this season ticket bargain deal because we need to start next season with a fresh outlook and get to the championship.Anyway.
.I am a Hull City supporter for the next week..lets hope they thrash Bristol **** at the new Wembley!!!

Current season ticket holders have until June 16 to renew tickets before they go on general sale.We all care about STFC and they best way to help right now is to get behind the cut price ticket deal.Bigger crowds should help us get off to a good start, and lets hope Malpas can come up with the goods next season..he will be under massive preasure to do so and will have no excuses.

Perhaps somebody should approach the board and see if season tickets could be purchased on a 6 to 10 month payment scheme, that would allow discounted season tickets and time to pay.I agree that they need to get players in pretty quickly and hope Malpas picks the right ones! The board are trying to get fans committment by offering cut price tickets, but yes ,that should not be conditional on them buying or bringing in several new players.I think someone should speak to the board to talk about payment terms on season tickets..they have said they want communication with the fans, so they should be open to discussion.

While I think that the new S.T scheme is a great inititive I still don't believe that our gates will reach the suggested 10k mark consistantly.
Average gate last season was just over 7k mark. Away fans are included in that figure so to get the magic 6k we will need a few hundred NEW fans to acheive that 6k target.
Beyond that I cannot see our average attendance getting much greater unless we are in or around the top six all season.
I don't want to pee on anyone's parade but it's results and league position that determin crowd size.
Entrance fee's play a small part but if you're top of the league you 'll pull the punters, most will get the entrance fee somehow .

tractorboy..What you say is right..it has always been that way with most lower leauge clubs for as long as I can remember..good results pull the crowds in ,otherwise only the hardcore faithfull turn up.But the board are trying to break the mould by getting fans committed BEFORE succes in order to create a good atmosphere from day one at the CC by offering heavily discounted season tickets. The problem that the board have NOT recognised is that many supporters cant afford 50% now and the balance in October so it will leave many supporters fed up and left paying by the game at the normal price as a result. If they created a 6 to 10 month payment scheme, everyone could benefit, and the 6000 season ticket target would be a true reality.Bradford City in leauge 2 have a similar scheme, and they are getting 13000 virtually every home game, despite the poor performances last season.I think that we need to speak to A.F @co about this because it is within there power to implement such a scheme.

Its a shame we dont GET that every game. I think that is how fitton and co are looking at it. Plus people just have not got the MONEY 2 give out in 1 hit.
