Kids to face the big clubs
TOWN'S stars of the future can look forward to a glittering pre-season campaign as the Robins continue to establish themselves as a leading youth set-up.
Swindon's Centre of Excellence will play friendlies against Liverpool, Everton, Portsmouth, Fulham and Derby - with their reputation continuing to grow.
Town's youth team can also look forward to pre-season matches against Fulham, Everton and Liverpool and youth director Jeremy Newton insists the line-up proves the advances the club have made.
He said: "It is a really exciting pre-season. It has come about as well by the fact the clubs in question wanted to play us, rather than us chasing the fixture.
"No disrespect to the teams we play in the season, like Cheltenham, Bournemouth and Bristol Rovers, but we want to pit ourselves against the best and to see how they do things.
"We want to challenge our players and coaches and we can only do that by going to these academies and seeing what their money gets them.
"For these footballing giants to agree fixtures with us shows what we are trying to do as a club and as a youth department and also shows we must be doing something right."

Good luck guy's!!! Just a question though,why cant the first team get friendlies like these? a bit of bartering here and there,im sure the first team could get them aswell,just a thought.

Here`s another thought, when our kids play these top teams and impress them will our stance on not letting them go still stand up, this i doubt very much. There again at least they will have to pay i suppose.

Seeing how big clubs do things is all well and good but to make ourselves a big club we need to keep our best younger players for us.This is understandably the hardest thing to do.AF is no mug however and nobody would stand in a kids way if a dream move did suit one of these youngsters.The key to this is to tie them up on contracts and make sure these ruthless premier boys pay up big bucks if they want them.These big clubs really get to me as not only do they buy whoever they want but they poach all of the smaller clubs best talent.This i know is part of life .I have got confidence in AF and co.Football has become affordable for us now i hope over 6k season tickets get sold.
