Quintet given scholarships

THE under 16's won 6-2 at Bristol Rovers at the weekend and we included four of the new scholars we have taken on for next season.

Jordan Record scored three, Billy Bodin scored two and Elliot Knight scored one so that was a pleasing performance. The fourth scholar from our ranks, Will Evans, also played well.

We decided to take on five scholars last week and we still have two spaces available which we may be looking to fill or we may keep them open.

We had a lad down from Blackburn at the weekend but he did not show us what we were looking for so we have said there is nothing for him. We will keep looking with regards those two spaces.

Four of the scholars have come through the centre of excellence and the other lad, Mark Hartman, we managed to get from Portsmouth.

It is good to see so many of our youngsters playing for the reserves now. It is where we want them to be and it is up to them to show what they can do now they are in this position.

With the watching eyes of the assistant and the reserve team manager it is down to them to try and get themselves into the first team squad.

The amount of Premiership scouts looking at our youngsters has quietened down a bit now but if they get into the first team we will see what happens from there.

This weekend the under 18s have got Swansea in a rearranged game on Saturday while the under 16s have no game and there is no Centre of Excellence due to the Easter break.

Our under sevens to 15s will have their retain release taking place in the first two weeks of April so some will be going and some will be staying.
