CAPTAIN'S LOG: No excuse for lack of effort

WE took a young team to play Bristol City reserves yesterday and I have to admit I was very disappointed with the first half, although we came back well in a 2-1 defeat.

I was upset with the effort particularly. We had a young side out and all those lads are trying to earn a living in the game and the least you would expect is effort and commitment.

We got into them at half-time and the second half was different - we could have got something out of the game.

I was pleased with the second half, pleased with one or two of the lads but not so pleased with others and they know that.

I have told them becoming a professional footballer is a fantastic job to have and there are lads in Swindon who would give their right arm to be in the position these lads are.

I need to see more and the manager does. Everything you would expect of a lad of that age trying to earn a living in the game, we should see.

Passion, commitment, body language and that was not there in the first half.

I would have hated to have played in a game like that for my last game of the season. To go away for six weeks and think of the last game is a long time.

Some of them have to wait now to put it right. Bristol City are a decent side but second half we got in their faces and started tackling.

We were quicker and could have nicked a draw. A few of the boys need a good pre-season and hopefully progress next season.

I believe I am going to be involved at Salisbury and am looking forward to it.

It is a cup final and we have half a strong side. I am hoping to play and am looking forward to it.

I suppose it is technically a first-team fixture so it could be my last first-team appearance but I have not really thought of it too much like that.

It has been a busy week with three games in five days so we have had to chop and change things quite a bit.

I think we are all relaxed with what is going to happen with my future at the club. Nothing has been signed but I do expect to be on the coaching staff come next season.

I would like it to be sorted out this week. The season finishes, then I go on a coaching course then I go on my holidays and if it is signed I can get my head round it and start focusing.

I would like it put to bed so I can look forward to next season.

I would like to thank all Swindon fans for their support this season and the Advertiser for giving me this column.

I have enjoyed the season, even though it has not been quite as I imagined, and hopefully I will see you all again after the summer.
