Captain's Log: Exciting times and a chance to learn again

THIS is an exciting time for everyone at the club because it is another chapter in Swindon Town's history.

I am really looking forward to working with Maurice Malpas. I am sure he will have his own ideas and, from my own point of view, it is someone else I can learn from.

The manager will want to come in and have a look at everything rather than making any decisions straight away, so we will have to wait to see what happens with me.

I would love to be involved in the coaching staff in some way, obviously that is the way I see my career going, but we will have to speak and see what his views on it are. He has not even been officially appointed yet.

I really enjoyed being caretaker boss with Budgie over the last few weeks though and, after a slow start due to injuries, I don't think we did too badly.

We had a decent Christmas, although the Barnet game was a bit disappointing especially the last 20 minutes. But we got eight points from 12 and I think we would have taken that before we started.

As a player I have always said there could be no better feeling than when you win a game. But when you win as a manager that feeling is even better, it is absolutely brilliant.

I guess it is the same when you lose though. As a player obviously you are disappointed and it gets you down that day but by the next day you are doing something else and looking forward.

As a manager though if you lose you are constantly thinking about where you went wrong and that feeling does not really disappear until the next game. The feeling is multiplied either way as a manager.

Five managers in just over two years is high in anyone's books. If you look at the successful clubs over the years they are normally the ones that have stability and continuity.

Hopefully the gaffer has come in with a long term plan and, while it will take a while to stamp his mark, we can look forward to a period of stability.

A new manager coming will benefit some lads and hinder others. The players who have not had a lot of first team football will get a fresh chance to impress whereas the lads who were in the old manager's plans will have it all to prove again.

As far as my playing career is concerned we will wait and see what happens. I probably need a week of good training and then hopefully I will be ready to return.

I would imagine the manager would call everyone in for a one-to-one chat, we will go from there.
