Williams: Tozer still has a job to do here

THERE has been a lot of talk about Ben Tozer being watched by Premiership clubs but I'm sure it won't go to his head.

After all, he still has to come in and clean my boots so that should keep his feet firmly on the ground.

There are several promising youngsters at the club - we saw Chris Allen make his first start at Southend - and it's not surprising they are being talked about.

Tozer had a rough time of it at Carlisle when he was up against two very good strikers and then to rub salt into the wound he was sent off.

But somebody once said there are no mistakes in football- only lessons. As long as he keeps listening and learning he has a very bright future in the game.

Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that this takeover finally goes through.

That would give everyone at the club a big lift and give us something to look forward to in the New Year.

I've always had a good relationship with the supporters and I understand their frustration at the situation.

Football is an expensive business these days. They pay a lot of money to come to games and we value their opinions.

It would be nice if we could start to fill the stadium again because it always makes a big difference to the players.

When you look at the likes of Leeds and Notts Forest, their fans can make it very intimidating for the opposition.

Some teams freeze in that environment and they can find themselves a goal down very early on in the match.

I would like to see that work in our favour too, but first we must get the results to justify the fans spending their hard-earned money.

The supporters were fantastic at Southend. It would have been easy to stay away after the shambles at Carlisle but fair play to them.

They were singing from the first minute to the last and even when we conceded that injury-time goal they still stayed behind to applaud the players. I would like to say a big, big thank you for that.

We are coming up to Christmas now and every football fan knows this is an important time that can shape your season.

We want to be looking at the top half of the league and not languishing towards the bottom of mid-table.

We have back-to-back home games coming up against Brighton and Hartlepool and it's important that we get back to winning ways.

We will be looking for a similar performance to the Southend game but obviously a different result.

Things are looking up on the injury front now so hopefully we will have a full squad to chose from before too long.

Our physio Dick Mackey has been the busiest man at the club these last few weeks and I'm sure he could do with a breather before Christmas.
