Away mission makes sure Town are in the know

I wasn't at the Luton game on Saturday because the gaffer sent me to watch Millwall versus Cheltenham instead.

He wanted to see what they are all about ahead of the match this Saturday and I certainly did not mind going.

I went to watch Northampton in pre-season so we could find out more about them ahead of the opening game.

Although I didn't see the Luton game, from the reports I have heard it sounds like we played really well.

I spoke to a few of the players on the phone afterwards and they were very pleased with the performance.

I said in my programme notes that Luton would be one of the favourites to go up because, on paper, they have a very strong side.

The likes of Paul Peschisolido, Paul Furlong and Chris Perry have all played in the Premiership and are now playing below their level.

But you don't win anything on paper and we proved that team spirit and hard work can be a match for anyone.

I would have taken four points from the opening two matches, but I would have thought a win at Northampton and a draw against Luton would have been the safe bet.

But that just shows what an up and down league this is going to be this season.

There's a couple of really big clubs in the league like Leeds and Notts Forest, but I think sometimes their reputation goes before them.

People like the minnows of Yeovil Town (and that's not meant to be disrespectful) have shown what can be achieved if you get a group of players who believe in each other.

I think Scunthorpe and Blackpool are two great examples of that, and both are now playing Championship football.

There's a great atmosphere in our camp at the moment, as you can imagine.

Winning breeds confidence and the banter has been flying around on the training ground in the last few days.

But we know a couple of defeats and it will feel like a morgue down there, so we want to build on this positive start we have made.

I'm hoping to be back in full training very soon now that my knee injury finally appears to be on the mend.

With Barry Corr also out injured we have been able to help each other along and push each other.

It makes it so much easier when there's more than one person because being injured can make you feel so lonely.

When there's two of you training you can bounce off each other.

Having seen the excellent start the boys have made to the season we are both desperate to be a part of that.
