It’s that time of year again, who will be coming to Swindon Town this summer?
Paul Sturrock certainly has played his cards close to his chest unlike former Town boss the ever popular chain-smoking, Andy King who would constantly brag in the media about players he was looking at like Owen Tudor-Jones and Bradley Orr to name a couple only to say he was outbid by other clubs.
So far we have Barry Corr, The ex Sheffield Wednesday striker became an instant hit at the County Ground scoring 3 goals in 8 games whilst also giving Town a much needed physical presence up front. We have seen the player with a broken back just think how well he will do if he can stay fit, although looks like he may miss the first month of the season.
Next we have highly rated 28 year old former Scotland Under 21 International Craig Easton who turned down a new deal at Leyton Orient to rejoin Sturrock who managed Easton at Dundee.
Orient fans assumed he was leaving Orient to sign for a Championship club and have had rave reviews about Easton’s work rate. Town could have a fantastic duo with Easton and Peacock in the middle assuming both stay healthy. Oh yes and there is also another small matter, Easton scored the first goal to relegate Oxford United to the Conference to play brick layers and plasterers week in and week out.
Most of the players Sturrock has brought in since joining Town have delivered the goods.
One player certain to not be coming to the County Ground is former Town striker Sam Parkin who has been plagued with injuries since his departure to Ipswich after the 2004/05 season.
Perhaps it’s a bit too early to dream of a second successive promotion and get back to The Championship but if Sturrock keeps bringing in the players of the calibre he has so far, it could be a very interesting season at the County Ground.
